I think you're almost as good as him, Hanzo. (That's a compliment, btw, not sarcasm. :) )

I don't know much about Allred, but that is some fine looking artwork. Kinda reminds me of Trina Robbins:

You aren't familiar with him Trevor? Madman was a blast back in the day.

Edited: just read your comment above... gotcha! Allred is fun.

I think I may have had incomprehensible issue of X-Force or something he did a few years ago, but I don't remember reading anything else by him. I looks like Madman started in 1992, and I wasn't buying many comics at that point.

Yeah, I missed his X-Force stuff... I wasn't buying back then. He's currently drawing iZombie which I may revisit in trade someday... I bailed after issue three despite the nice art. He draws a great Were-Terrier character (like a Werewolf, but a terrier). :-)

This was my intro into Mike's work and I recommend it for anyone else interested in discovering Mike's work. You can get it super cheap on AmazWAN.

I really liked his X-Force/X-Statix stuff. That led me to The Atomics, which was also excellent. Haven't read any of his stuff since, though.

For me, he really fell off at the end of X-Statix. I eagerly collected Madman's Atomic Comics but all the charm was gone and what was left were these weird, esoteric stories that didn't really connect with me at all.

Sucks, because Madman until the end end of the first ongoing series was one of my favorite all-time comics, especially the Oddity Odyssey, which won an Eisner IIRC.

+1. And I tried to stick with it I really did.

The series seemed more experimental than actual story-telling. He did one cool issue with a different art styles (mimicing a comic great) in every panel.

I have every issue of Madman, so after the first 3 or 4 issues, I collected it to keep my run intact. But I was definitely let down by the whole thing.

I'm not bothering with iZombie -- the days of collecting everything Allred does is over for me.

I loved X-Force/X-Statix. That is the only thing of Allred I've ever read.

Love Allred's work. He did a great issue of Fables a couple of years back that's collected in the Dark Ages TPB.

I like in one of his earlier trades he has that flip corner animation thing going on so you can watch Madman dance.
