So, what would you have done? What would have fulfilled the ultimate crossover fantasy of the fans?

For me, it would have been a one-shot for each fight (much like the Stern/Rude Superman v. Hulk special) with bookends issues on both ends and they would have gone as follows --

This works for me, though I'd rather see Steve Epting as the artist on Batman vs. Captain America. Jim Lee can do the covers, though. That'd be okay.

Oh, and let's see a Spider-Man vs. Nightwing (you heard me) by Dan Slott and art by, oh, say, Dan Jurgens.

And classic JLA vs. classic Avengers by Darwin Cooke and Steve Rude.

Well, sure, but you know how these things go -- they first fight, and then they realize there's someone else who has manipulated them and then they team up against the common foe. And those two would be cool together in such a scenario.

That's what really annoyed me about the Daredevil battles -- this guy can throw a buick across the street and Daredevil can trade punches with him?

Who at DC would you pit Spidey up against? On a power level, I mean -- obviously you already posted the Batman vs. Spider-Man thing above (which I frankly don't see as being that different from Nightwing vs. Spider-Man).

I agree with you, Spidey's the toughest one to match up with. Popularity aside, I suppose Deathstroke might be on the same level.

I'd rather that the heroes were friends.
