Over in the Burroughs thread, we got some really nice photos of people's bookshelves. Made me want to see others as well. If you can snap some pix and post 'em of your non-comics bookshelves, that's cool!

Here's some of mine.

Image
Over on the right, you will notice "That Blackguard Burton," "Pornucopia," "Mother was a Lovely Beast," "A Barnstormer In Oz," and "The Ultimate Werewolf." Those books are from the personal library of Philip Jose Farmer. I was honored to be asked by his family after his memorial celebration to come pick out some books from his library as a gift. I picked those books along with his copy of Harlan Ellison's "All The Lies That Are My Life" (Phil wrote one of the afterwords) that has a thank you note in there from Harlan and Phil's copy of the first edition of "I Go Pogo" by Walt Kelly. I also took a few copies of variant paperbacks and foreign editions of some of my favorite novels. When I got home, I created a bookplate with the "Doc Savage" family coat of arms that Phil and I designed and noted each book as coming from PJF's library and the date that they were given to me.

Other than my kids, these are the things of mine that are priceless.

You may be wondering about the caps. The orange cap is from country singer/songwriter Kevin Fowler and signed to me on the brim. The other cap is from the LAND OF THE LOST movie premiere and I got it signed to me on the brim by Marty friggin' Krofft himself! (I grabbed him while he was coming out of the bathroom!)

I can see the pictures fine. And that is some great shelf porn. You have excellent taste -- the right stuff, and not too clutterly or too much. Quality.

ah yeah. Sometime I'll snap pix of my comic-ey stuff and the limited number of figures I display. I'll post them there on that thread when I do. :)

These are 2 years old, only difference now is they're more crowded, with a 4 foot stack next to them. I've run out of bookshelves, and space for bookshelves. :/

The lightsabre is now on top of the biggest bookshelf. All shelves are full of books. I've also got bags of trades under my bed, those that just didn't make the cut, and another 4 bags full (they're all those cloth 'save the environment don't use plastic bags bags, so they hold a fair amount of trades each) in front of the bookshelves, I don't know what to do with them, along with 3 bags in my bedroom NEXT to the 4 foot stack, as it was going to tip over if I added any more.

These were more recent, but still woefully old.

I never noticed I had a towel hanging over the railing. Oopsie.

There's actually 3 bookshelves there, you can see one in both pictures, cut in half. One big one, and 2 medium ones.

The 2 smaller ones are fantastic, extremely solid and well-made, lovely wood. They're just too small. :/ They were expensive, but worth every cent.

The big one is still good quality, extremely solid, no chipboard crap, but I like the craftsmanship better on the smaller ones.

I'll try and remember to take some photo's tomorrow, to show what it looks like now.

EDIT: Actually, on the newer photos, you can see the bottom of the lightsabre case on the bigger bookshelf.

Although I'm more fond of the original costume, that Thor statue is beautiful and stands out on that bookcase.

I'm still getting my bookshelves arranged after moving into our house last fall, but here are some shelves in progress.

They're all Marvel Selects action figures. Statues are far too pricey for me to own too many.

I love nicknacks like the ones Stephen has and Swanderson has -- ones that look old and magic.

Action figures sitting out just annoy me into a Hulk rage for some reason.

Me, too, usually, but Hanzo's all look premium. I wish I lived near a comic book store to see this stuff first hand.

Is it somewhat odd that the toy collector has no toys amongst his books?

(The lightsabre doesn't count, it's a prop replica :p )

Hanzo loses points for having the drawing table folded up in the corner.

Nobody puts table in the corner.

Action figures and sculpts are like videogaming to me. I totally understand the attraction, but it's not in my DNA. My only "action figure" on display (that wasn't a gift from my kids) is my Lawgiver plastic statue from the Planet of the Apes. It looks similar to the Catholic plastic statuettes that I grew up having around. When I had it in my work office, people would assume that it was a religious statuette, until they looked closely and asked, "Is that a monkey?"

I have a friend that has themed rooms. Each room in his house is dedicated to a separate Sci-Fi movie or TV series. Also not in my DNA, but I love that he's done that.
