This popped into my head yesterday afternoon while driving. Brought to mind lots of good memories of playing the Marvel Super-Heroes RPG. We had the game version of the Handbook to the Marvel Universe so our super group was always sort of eclectic. Wish I knew if any of the stuff we used still exists in one of my buddies' attic...

You mean FASA? They went under like ten years ago.

No, FASERIP -- the Marvel RPG that TSR came up with in the mid-'80s. FASERIP stood for Fighting, Agility, Strength, Endurance, Reason, Intuition and Psyche, the stats used for the game.

It wasn't a very good game system, frankly, but we found a good tool to convert Marvel RPG characters into Champions, so that was okay.

We used to play the DC Heroes RPG a lot back in the '80s. We tried out the Marvel one, but it didn't stick with us.

The Marvel one was great. You could whip up a game really quick just by using your knowledge of Comics....although the danger of having plot lines as tangled as Claremont was a near certainty :)

I keep reading this thread title as "FALSE-RIP".

Which I guess would make it part of the "Revolving Door of Death" thread.

I glanced at the title and thought it was FALSE RIP and it was going to be about premature reports of celebrities dying.

Bannings: I'm judging you.
I love MSH. Oh, sure, Champions is far and away a better system, but MSH is so damn fast! You can jump in with rough ideas for characters and an adventure and be playing in minutes. And everything boiled down to that one table on the back of the books. Fun little game!

MSH was what we always called a "beer & pretzels" game...it was so simple and quick to get going, it felt like it was just one step beyond a board game...
