From Melodicrock.com
"Detroit (Billboard) ñ Its all-star members may be working on other projects -- the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album for Chad Smith, solo sets for Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani -- but Chickenfoot has already started work on its sophomore album. "This time around it doesn't seem too scary to try to pull it off," guitarist Satriani says. "We know we've done it once. The whole scheduling thing doesn't scare us like it did last time. We're more relaxed about the fact everyone has got crazy schedules and know that when we do get together, it's really fun." The quartet, which also includes former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, had a "very productive" session in April, before the launch party for the group's concert DVD, "Get Your Buzz On Live," at Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Chickenfoot will spend most of September working on the album, then reconvene in late January and early February for "wrap-up sessions," with a spring 2011 release planned, again via Best Buy. Satriani says he expects to have "probably 20 (more) songs to lay on everybody when we get together again." A producer hasn't yet been chosen for the album, but Andy Johns and Mike Fraser, who both worked on 2008's "Chickenfoot" debut, are leading candidates."
I'm really looking forward to this one. The first one has really grown on me. Hopefully, #2 will be more of the same.

I really like the first one as well, and the live DVD is very good. But after the "deluxe" release a few months later on disc number one, I'm not so sure I'm going to rush right out for the second one. Maybe just buy this one once, instead.

If the new interview with Sammy Hagar doesn’t say it clearly enough, you just aren’t paying attention: the recording sessions for the new Chickenfoot album are in overdrive.
Chickenfoot – Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith – hit Sammy’s studio, “The Foot Locker,” bang on schedule last month, with a short 5-week window of availability for drummer Smith before he resumes duties with The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Matt Warnock at Guitar International hooked up with the Red Rocker to find out more.
Guitar Int’l: You’ve been recording the new album with Chickenfoot for about a week now. How’s it going so far?
Sammy Hagar: We started last Saturday–it’s a week today. Seven days and you ain’t gonna believe it, but we’ve got eleven songs. It isn’t like we wrote the songs previously, rehearsed them and then went in and just tried to cut ‘em. We’re writing in the studio on the spot. Joe presents us with some musical ideas, and his ideas are really together, it isn’t this vague idea. He presents you with an intro, a verse, a chorus, a bridge, a solo and an ending.
Then we jam to it. I see if it feels melodically in my repertoire of blues licks that I have in my voice. [Laughs] Then I come up with a good melody and structure, and we work on the arrangement until we all agree. Then my job is to come up with a title before we’re done rehearsing the song. Last but not least, I go out and write the lyrics. Believe it or not, I’ve already written lyrics for five of the songs on the new record. Then we get a take that sounds good and we continue the process. I can’t believe how fast things are going with this record. It’s amazing.
GI: It sounds like you’re just flying through the recording process. Is that going to bump up the release date for the record at all, since things are moving so quickly?
Sammy: We’re flying through it, but I don’t think that’ll have any bearing on when it gets released. I don’t think we’ll release it until towards the end of the year. It’s happening fast on its own, but we had to cram Chad into this five-week period we have here to get it done. We’re way ahead of that. We expected in the five weeks to get 12 or 13 songs written and lay down the drum tracks. Then Chad could go away for the rest of the year and Joe, Michael and I could finish the record. That’s the way it was planned, but we’re way beyond that.
It’s f**king crazy, the chemistry in this band. We’re even pushing ourselves this time to do some things musically that we know we’re capable of, but that we haven’t touched on yet. I keep telling Joe, “Come up with any idea you want for me. How would you like to hear me sing? Write some music like that and I’ll stretch myself and make my voice and lyric ideas work for that music.” We’ve done this already in a short time, and it seems like with this band everything just comes easy. No matter what we bite off, it comes easy. There’s a real special chemistry that we have with this band.
GI: Speaking of chemistry, you’re recording in this five-week window because of Chad’s schedule with the Chili Peppers. There’s been talk that you might find a sub for Chad so that Chickenfoot can go on the road this year, but where do you stand on that? Are you thinking about finding a different drummer for a tour, or waiting until Chad is free and can go out on the road with you guys together?
Sammy: It’s hard to say. Just to say that right now, I’m not ready to commit to either one of those things. If I had my way, Chad’s the drummer in this band and there is no other drummer. But, at the same time, that’s what we did for this CD. We talked eight months ago about going into the studio. We can make a record any time we want, I have my own studio, but we chose to wait for Chad. That’s a statement in itself. Promoters are trying to book us for this summer, to go to Europe and play, and do some stuff in the States, but we’ve decided to say no.
We’re not going to book shows until this record’s done. Let’s put this record out and see what happens. If it’s the kind of response that we got last time, we’re probably going to have to go out. If we get a substitute drummer, we’ll get the baddest motherf**ker out there and go out with him, maybe, until Chad can do it again.
Chad’s the drummer in Chickenfoot. It’s not like we’d make the change and say, “Here’s the new drummer.” It’d be like, “Here’s the drummer that’s filling in for Chad until he can come back.” That’s the way it’s got to be for me. Chad is the drummer in Chickenfoot, because it’s all about the chemistry.

*Um-didn't The Traveling Wilburys, The Stranglers and whoever else already do this before? Stupid, lame and unfunny!
From Blabbermouth.net:
Chickenfoot have a title for their new album. The record, due out later this year, is to be called Chickenfoot IV.
According to Blabbermouth, frontman Sammy Hagar had this to say about the choice of title:
“We were all like, ‘What are we going to call second record? Well, Chickenfoot II’. And we’re going, ‘We can’t call it Chickenfoot II, that’s too obvious’. And pretty soon (drummer) Chad Smith, I’m sure was the guy, he’s going, ‘Let’s call it Chickenfoot IV’. And we all cracked up and said, ‘Right on, that’s it’. And we haven’t talked about it since.”
The band are currently recording the album with producer Mike Fraser.

That's pretty much how they ended up being Chickenfoot, isn't it?
Sammy was on Eddie Trunk's show today and said that they have 11 songs recorded, with all vocals done on 7. He said he had to stop for the book tour, but when it's done he'll be back in the studio with Michael Anthony to finish them up. He said they hope to get the album out in the fall.

Bassist Michael Anthony celebrated his 57th birthday Monday by sharing some Chickenfoot news with fans.
“Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes!,” wrote Anthony on his Facebook page. “The only thing that makes my day better is that mixing on the new Chickenfoot CD is done! It’s a lot heavier than the first record and I can’t wait to get it out there!”
Then, Anthony confirmed the timing of the new music’s release:
“The first single should hit the airwaves sometime this summer with the full enchilada to follow in the fall. Stay tuned for all the details and we hope to see you all real soon! Mad Anthony”
Chickenfoot went into Sammy Hagar’s Foot Locker Studios in Marin County in January to begin the process of making their sophomore record.
The initial series of sessions ran pretty quickly to accommodate drummer Chad Smith’s schedule, as he was reconnecting with the Red Hot Chili Peppers to record their new album (which is set for release this August). A possible touring replacement for Smith has yet to be announced by the band, should it start considering dates in Smith’s absence.

CHICKENFOOT's second album will be released on September 27. The CD's first single, "Bigfoot", is scheduled to hit the airwaves sometime in July.
Bassist Michael Anthony, who turned 57 this month, described the new CHICKENFOOT album as "a lot heavier than the first record."
CHICKENFOOT is the rock supergroup featuring former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith.
Although Hagar stated in March that CHICKENFOOT's second album would be titled Chickenfoot IV" (Four), Anthony told the Van Halen News Desk that the band eventually decided against the idea.
The new CHICKENFOOT CD's initial recording sessions were overseen by Mike Fraser, a Canadian producer, engineer and mixer who has previously worked with AC/DC, METALLICA and AEROSMITH. Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Last Temptation", "Something's Gone Wrong", "Dubai Blues", "Different Devil", "No Change", "Who's Next" and "Astral Years".
Chad Smith recently confirmed that he won't tour with CHICKENFOOT this year in support of the band's second album due to scheduling conflicts with his main group, the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
CHICKENFOOT's self-titled debut disc came out in June 2009 and was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies.

Chickenfoot has found a home for their upcoming sophomore album, “Chickenfoot III,” due September 27.
eOne Music has completed a new, exclusive deal with the rockers to distribute the record in North America.
"Chickenfoot is one of the top-selling hard rock groups in the country,” says eOne Music President Alan Grunblatt. “Everyone at eOne is thrilled to be working with them."
"I am very happy to join forces with eOne,” adds singer Sammy Hagar. “The FOOT has landed!"
Bassist Michael Anthony recently advised fans that the album’s first single, “Bigfoot,” is scheduled to hit the airwaves sometime this month.
Chickenfoot worked with producer Mike Fraser on the follow-up to their 2009 self-titled debut; the new disc was recorded at Hagar’s Foot Locker Studios in Marin County, California.

So they were against calling it Chickenfoot IV and now it's Chickenfoot III? That's pure genius. Although the album did do well, calling them one of the top selling Hard Rock groups in the country right now is kinda funny seeing as the album is priced less than a Beef N' Cheddar at Arby's.

Chickenfoot's sophomore album, Chickenfoot III (not IV as previously reported), is set for worldwide release on September 27th from eOne Music in North America and around the world by earMUSIC/Edel in a special 3D designed package. The album's lead single "Big Foot," is set for release on August 2nd. The new album was produced by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica).
"I am very proud of the new album," says lead singer Hagar. "We're calling the album Chickenfoot III because it's so good, the songs are so tight, it's like we jumped right past having to make a second record."
He adds, "We've established a real trust, Joe and I, we truly bring out the best in one another, and that spreads to the whole band."

Inside Chickenfoot's 'Life-Changing' Second Album'It's the best record I've ever made,' says Sammy Hagar
By Patrick Doyle
July 22, 2011 1:00 PM ET
Sammy Hagar of ChickenfootTim Mosenfelder/Getty Images"It's the best record I've ever made," Sammy Hagar says of Chickenfoot's second album, which they're so pumped about they skipped right to calling it Chickenfoot III. The supergroup – featuring Hagar, guitar wizard Joe Satriani, ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith – started as a tequila-soaked jam session in Mexico and went on to sell 500,000 copies of its 2009 debut LP.
The follow-up features the same harmony-drenched hooks and huge riffs, along with a few surprises: the R&B romp "Come Closer" experiments with spoken-word poetry on "Three and a Half Letters," and "Last Temptation" is Black Keys-inspired. Says Hagar, "The Keys are one of my top 10 groups ever, going back to Cream and Zeppelin."
The band recorded mostly live at Hagar's Northern California studio, although a bout of writer's block slowed down the recording process. "I was being negative, and I fought with myself," says Hagar, who writes most of the band's lyrics. "The music Joe was presenting was so good, I honestly beat myself up for the first time ever. I didn't want to walk in with something mediocre."
But Hagar had a creative revelation on a trip to his house in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. "I'm sitting in Cabo I'm listening to music – it took three weeks. I was talking to the father of my partner in Mexico" – where Hagar started his wildly successful tequila company Cabo Wabo. "He's 74 years old, and he's got a mistress, but he's still living with his wife. And I'm going 'You got to make the jump, man!' He says in Spanish, 'Same hell, different devil.' I said 'There's my song. What a great line.'" Hagar wrote "Different Devil," which he calls, "Probably the biggest pop hit we would ever have if we wanted it."
Chickenfoot took another blow when manager John Carter died of cancer in the middle of their sessions in May (they pay tribute to him on "Up Next"). Says Satriani, "Now [when I listen to the record], I can hear the dark cloud. I didn't hear it at the time. I think its because we were trying so hard to keep our nose to the grind, and keep a good face for Carter."
"It wasn't fun trying to make the record," Hagar adds. "But when I listened back, I got the goose bumps."
Still, the band had their share of fun making the record at Hagar's Northern California studio. "Everything's there for us. I've got 14 cars – exotics, racecars, you name it, and we can just take a break and I say, 'Here's the keys. They're all on this wall over here, take your pick fellas' and jump in the car and go and burn some rubber down the street. It's a very comfortable environment for a band."
The results are some of Hagar and Satriani's favorite hooks yet. "It's a lot more musical than the last record – the hooks and the songs are better," says Hagar. Satriani adds, "We created a record that was deeper and better than the first one . . . it makes a musician very happy when they can see that they are involved with something that's very moving forward and life-changing."
The band may tour in November, although it will have to find another drummer – Smith is busy with the Chili Peppers. "That's the biggest disappointment about the whole thing," says Hagar, adding the band has auditioned several drummers and have an audition with Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Smashing Pumpkins). "He's going to spend a couple days with this and were just going to jam and if he fits. It's got to be the chemistry. Kenny can play that's for sure and we all like him. He's kind of like like Chad – he's kind of crazy and he hits so fucking hard that he beats his drum set to the ground that after every show he needs a new drum set."
The fall is also looking to be a busy time for Hagar's former band, Van Halen – they're playing five Australian dates in September and early October and have reportedly been recording an album with David Lee Roth. "It better be great, because they waited a long time," Hagar says. "And Chickenfoot raised the bar."
