I have watched the original version of the 1977 Star Wars movie, my my childhood love of that universe has been relit. What's the good comics and paperbacks for me to check out (I've read none of the paperbacks, and only the Marvel comics)? What ones should I avoid so I don't spoil these good vibes?

I enjoyed Shadows of the Empire.
Heir to the Empire Trilogy

As well as the Star Wars Tales Trades

Regarding Shadows of the Empire. There was an audio book with Anthony Daniels Reading it as well as R2 and lightsaber sound effects. Really brought it to life-Reminded me of listening to the Tape Cassette edits of the movies when I was a little kid.

I think they are all awful, just abysmal dreck. I tried a bunch of the Dark Horse comics and a variety of the EU books, but I've yet to read anything that captures the character, personalities, and humor of the original films, or even comes close. Oh, wait...one thing I did kind of like (probably because the original movie characters weren't in it) was the Knights of the Old Republic stuff.

That's an awesome commercial. Runs a bit too long. I got the idea after the first couple things he tried to use the Force on.

True. I'm betting there will be a 30-second version later on.

Which one, there are at least two:

Han Solo at Stars End/Han Solo's Revenge and Han Solo and the Lost Legacy

Or the trilogy that came out in the late 90's that had his story from before he became a smuggler?

There's also the Corellian Trilogy...

I've read all three, they're not too bad but the best out of that first trilogy is Han Solo at Stars End. I think I read that thing at least 3 or 4 times...

I've just started the first book in the Thrawn trilogy. Thrawn seems like a cool villian.

I liked the Thrawn Trilogy, it came the closest to feeling like the movies.

You may not think so when you find out that he's actually:

Spoiler: show
Hitler!
