William Shatner has dropped a couple of tantalizing tweets suggesting that he and Zakk Wylde have recorded a cover of the Black Sabbath classic, "Iron Man."

As reported by MusicRadar, Shatner posted the following statement on his Twitter: "Just watched tracks being laid down by Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society for my upcoming record SEEKING MAJOR TOM." Shatner followed with a tweet that read: "Zakk is one of the great guitarists who played with Ozzy Osbourne. A master playing a cover of 'Iron Man'. He's fantastic! I'm energized."

For a sneak peek into the Shatner/Wylde collaboration, check out a video, recently posted by Seeking Major Tom producer Adam Hamilton

I am so in. I loved Has Been and listen to (most of it) all the time. This has to rule. I also kinda like #%$@%^@ My Dad Says. The writing is cliched but Shatner is amusing.
This is an acquired taste for sure!

I wonder if the album title means he's covering Space Oddity as well?

I have Transformed Man.....it's kind of tedious outside of Mr. Tambourine Man and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

Has Been is really good-I just listened to it again. The music is excellent and some if it is hilarious. The cover of Pulp's "Common People" is absolutely brilliant. It rocks, and with Joe Jackson and Ben Folds it's great fun. "I Can't Get Behind That" with Adrian Belew and Henry Rollins is insanity! I tell you, it's good. An acquired good, yes.
There's only 2 songs I can't listen to. I very much look forward to this!

Zakk Wylde's camp have confirmed that he has recorded a song with Star Trek's legendary Captain James T Kirk. Here is what they sent over:
William Shatner teamed up with guitar legend Zakk Wylde at Wylde's studio, The Black Label Bunker, to lay down tracks for a cover of Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man."

The song will appear on Shatner's upcoming album, Seeking Major Tom, which features a collection of sci-fi, space-themed songs. The album is due out on Cleopatra Records later this year.

Of Wylde, Shatner commented, "He's fantastic! I'm energized." Wylde was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Shatner and added, "He's super cool, we had an awesome time working together."

The Transformed Man is from his pre-ironic days and is pretty tough to listen to, IMO; Has Been was good, often funny, always entertaining, stuff; I'm going to check this out for sure!

Looking at the track listing and the musicians involved I cannot wait for this and I will get some laughs as well! Wow-what a list of musicians!

Reports about William Shatner's new album have been leaking out from some time now, but a final tracklist (and all-star guest list) has finally been announced. Ritchie Blackmore, Warren Haynes, Zakk Wylde, Brad Paisley and Peter Frampton will be assisting "Captain Kirk" on 19 space-themed songs by Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, David Bowie and others.

Titled Searching for Major Tom (it was formerly Seeking Major Tom), the album is due out later this year on Cleopatra Records.

As previously reported, Shatner was thrilled to have Wylde appear on the record, and said, "He's fantastic! I'm energized."

Searching for Major Tom tracklist:
1. "Space Trucking" (Deep Purple) – Ian Paice on drums and Johnny Winter on guitar
2. "She Blinded Me with Science" (Thomas Dolby) – Bootsy Collins on bass and Patrick Moraz (Yes) on keyboards
3. "In a Little While" (U2) – Manuel Gottsching on guitar
4. "Empty Glass" (The Tea Party) – Michael Schenker on guitar
5. "Lost in the Stars" (Frank Sinatra) – Ernie Watts on saxophone
6. "Twilight Zone" (Golden Earring) – Warren Haynes on guitar
7. "Space Cowboy" (Steve Miller Band) – Brad Paisley on guitar and vocals
8. "Rocket Man" (Elton John) – Steve Hillage on guitar
9. "Space Oddity" (David Bowie) – Ritchie Blackmore on guitar and Alan Parsons on keyboards
10. "Spirit in the Sky" (Norman Greenbaum) – Peter Frampton on guitar
11. "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen) – John Wetton (Asia) on bass and vocals
12. "Silver Machine" (Hawkwind) – Wayne Kramer on guitar and Carmine Appice on drums
13. "Major Tom" (Peter Shilling) – Nick Valensi (The Strokes) on guitar, Zakk Wylde on guitar and Mike Inez (Alice In Chains) on bass
14. "Learning to Fly" (Pink Floyd) – Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream) on guitar and keyboards
15. "Mr. Spaceman" (The Byrds) – Dave Davies on guitar
16. "Iron Man" (Black Sabbath) – Zakk Wylde on guitar and vocals
17. "Planet Earth" (Duran Duran) – Steve Howe (Yes/Asia) on guitar
18. "Walking on the Moon" (The Police) – Toots (of Toots and the Maytals) on vocals
19. "Mrs. Major Tom" – female vocalist to be announced

I enjoy Shatner's acting and I admire his ability to poke fun at his own image, but I can't get excited about another album from him. Hasn't he gone to this well one too many times?

Damn, if this only included a decent vocalist, I'd be all over it!

Invisible Pedestrian, I agree with you that Hasbeen is a very good record. When I first bought it I didn't expect it to amount to much; I would have been happy if it just made me laugh some. But it's actually pretty musical and Shatner really takes it to another level on some of the songs. I enjoy it more than some "serious" records I bought at around that same time.

I heard clips of this on Howard Stern. Whereas Has Been was just uniformly good and with actual range, IMO, this just sounds like horrible "Shat" parody.

I heard "She Blinded me With Science" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" and thought they were great. I'm definitely getting this knowing that some of these will suck, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna dig it.

"Has been" was truly brilliant. I had gotten it thinking it was just another bad Shatner record but I was surprised at how truly great the album was. Ben Folds really did a great job with it, turning Shatners talking style into what I consider, a legitimate group of hits! Sadly, the majority of the world considers it another bunch of wacky parodies but it's not. This new album looks like it's more of the wacky stuff so I'll pass.
