I have been re-reading some of my older issues of Flash. I realized how many great comics I picked up around then. From December, 1976 - January, 1978 onward I was pretty heavy into my comic collecting. I had been for a couple years prior to that, but 1977 was when it went into overdrive.

The surprising thing to me is how many of these issues were multi-parters where I only had one issue (usually the finale.) I managed to pick up enough details to figure out what had gone before.

I've managed to re-buy most of these. I need to make a list (Saxon can appreciate that. ;-) )

I've read a lot of those, but even those I haven't, in every case the cover makes me want to pick it up and read it immediately. That's what I miss most about the old days.

That Superman issue with the Parasite is one of my favorite comics ever. I remember being really startled and almost afraid of Superman telling someone 'This is the day you burn'.

Man, those images bring me back. That was just about when I started getting into comics, too. Here are some of the first issues (not all from '77, so nobody get on my case about that, please!) that I owned, or at least read:

That Justice League story was awesome. I was still getting a grasp on all the JSA members and had no clue who Mr. Terrific was. Still, the story gave me enough to go on about the character and care about what happened to him.

Leo, to this day I still don't have the conclusion of that two-parter. I still have no idea who killed the original Mr. Terrific! (Yes, I could look it up on Wiki or something. I don't wanna. So nyah.)

Bannings: One too few . . .
I like to collect comics from my childhood (often replacing what I once had) by year. Insted of focusing on "runs" of titles, I try to get all the titles for a give month of a given year. Then build out from there until I have the whole year.

Frank, That's funny. Because as a kid I only had the second part to it and not the first. The JSA series recently followed up on the murder and brought a resolution to it. I won't say who the murderer was, but at the time of the Justice League stories they did not bring the murderer to justice.

Through the years I have done a pretty good job of getting all the old comics from my youth. What's hurt my wallet and my free storage space is that I do end up getting the runs of the series, too.

The Legion of Super-Heroes, Green Lanter, Flash and Justice League of America being the ones to take up the most space. Because so many of the issues I had as a kid were part 2 of a multi-part story, as I recollected them I wanted to get the whole story.

I'm still accumulating Action, Superman and Flash stories from that time period. I've gotten all of the Legions and almost all the JLAs of that era.

Yeah, that's funny Leo---I also consider 1977 a great year for comics. I thought 75 and 76 were pretty bad comicswise (and musicwise) and both lept in 77. I used to wonder if both actually lept that summer, or if it was that I was just giddy with newfound freedom over just having gotten my driver's licence that spring. But clearly those comics (I have most of them) are killer-diller!

Gohnny, I agree about the music of '77 and '78. My CD collection has a lot of various artists and greatest hits compilations. The one time frame where there are a bunch of studio albums is from '77 and '78.

You had great albums like Hotel California, Rumours, 52nd Street, anything by STYX, and the list goes on.

Good times.
