Too modern-oriented? Not enough classic writers and artists or not high enough?

As most lists, I agree with some and disagreed with others, but overall, it's pretty good.

(At the time of this posting the lists aren't finished, but it's easy to tell Morrison and Moore/ Quitely and Kirby will be #2 and #1 in their respective lists)

Is the list supposed to be centered around the modern age? Lots of Golden and Silver Age heavy hitters missing. And lots of modern age lightweights taking up space.

Looks like people just asked to vote for their favorites, no objectivity required ... ?

Always interesting to see where fandom's head is at. (John Byrne is #24 on the Writer list ... !!)

People are just asked to vote for their favorites, I think. And that's fine, this isn't a scholarly essay or a list friom any kind of authority.

Heh, JH Williams III is better than Neal Adams! You heard it here FIRST!

I guess, if I'm honest with myself.

For the writers' list, I'd switch Geoff Johns out of the top ten and bump Claremont up from 11 to take his place. I'd add David Lapham to the list and bump off Jeph Loeb entirely.

For the artists' list, Alan Davis should be higher than John Cassaday. I'd drop Steve McNiven and Francis Manapul from the list altogether and replace them with R.M. Guera and Eduardo Risso. No way should David Finch be on the list and not Marc Silvestri.

I'd ditch 'em all and put Carl Barks at the top and follow him up with Dave Sim, Phil Foglio, Sergio Aragones, Charles Burns, Stan Sakai, Jeff Smith, the Hernandez Brothers, Matt Wagner and Robbie Patterson. In no particular order.

(All of the cartoonists I listed are writer/artists. Oh, and I forgot Will Eisner, who would be #2.)

(Okay, take Robbie off the writer version of the list.)

I'd add Bill Watterson to the list under both categories.

Good call in general, though he's more of a comic strip writer/artist and I was trying to focus on comic books.

I have to ignore any poll where Ditko does not make the top 50 artists.

Also, along with Cal Barks, Twitch, consider adding Walt Kelly.
Granted, he's known today mostly for his Pogo comic strip, but his
Dell Comic work is quite outstanding. I would never equate him to
Barks, but I'd want him somewhere in the top 50.

If we were including book illustrators, I'd include Dr. Seuss.

Well, he's there at 12.

I think Beachy was referencing my "I'd ditch 'em all" comment, Darragh.
