Product Description
Formed in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1965, the Lovin’ Spoonful were part of the USA’s response to The Beatles: an American band with an American flavour that could be to American kids what the Fab Four were in Britain.

Taking in blues, country, folk, and jug band music, John Sebastian’s songs delivered hit after hit in the US, UK and Europe, but there are many other fine songs to be found on the band’s six albums, now re-issued in three Edsel packages.

This 2 CD set contains their first two albums, from 1965 and 1966, and features the hits “Do You Believe In Magic”, “You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice”, “Daydream” and “Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?”.

This release also features five bonus tracks for each album – demos, instrumentals and alternate takes, and the booklet is fully annotated.

This set contains their third and fourth albums, both from 1966. “What’s Up Tiger Lily?” was the soundtrack of the Woody Allen’s debut feature film, and was entirely written and performed by the Lovin’ Spoonful. “Hums Of The Lovin’ Spoonful” features three of the band’s biggest hits: “Nashville Cats”, “Rain On The Roof” and the perennial favourite “Summer In The City”.

This release also features six bonus tracks – demos, instrumentals and alternate takes, and the booklet is fully annotated.

This set contains their fifth and sixth albums from 1967. “You’re A Big Boy Now” was the soundtrack of one of Francis Ford Coppola’s earliest films, which features the hit “Darling Be Home Soon” and was the band’s last album with guitarist Zal Yanovsky. “Everything Playing” was the band’s last album with John Sebastian and features the hits “She Is Still A Mystery”, “Six O’Clock” and “Money”.

This release also features three bonus tracks, and the booklet is fully annotated.

Still trying to get a copy of Revelation: Revolution 69...since there are no bonus tracks I guess I'll keep the 2003 versions but I'm missing the two soundtracks, so I'll have to get my hands on that old twofer.

Hmm...I'd gladly repurchase the Spoonful's catalog if the packaging somehow spoke to me...but this repackage doesn't really interest me (yet).

I haven't really listened to the Spoonful in nearly three years--I love their music, but I don't want to burn out on it. (Notice how their entire catalog, minus "Revelation: Revolution '69", fits on four CD's.)

One question I've had about the Spoonful for years remains answered: Why are there (apparently) no recordings of a vintage live Lovin' Spoonful concert available...anywhere, even on bootleg...not even a crummy sounding audience recording?
