'Texas Chainsaw Massacre…' director signs up for 'Clash Of The Titans 2'

Jonathan Liebesman has signed up to direct the sequel to this year's Clash Of The Titans remake.

Louis Leterrier, who oversaw the first film, announced in April he would not be involved again.

He had been criticised for converting the movie to 3D in post-production rather than shooting in the format. Liebesman will now shoot the sequel in 3D from the outset.

The director was responsible for 2006's Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and, more recently, political thriller The Killing Room.

:ohyes: I mean, IIRC, it didn't exactly break box office records.

Wow, a sequel to a remake that didn't have a sequel to begin with...

If we want to have enough B-Grade movies tomorrow, we have to start making them today. It's all about sustainability, people! ;)

The first one was watchably forgettable; I imagine a second would be more of the same. I regret paying full price to take the kids to see it in the theater though.

Liam Neeson to return as Zeus for 'Wrath Of The Titans'

Liam Neeson has talked for the first time about Wrath Of The Titans, the sequel to this year's Clash Of The Titans reboot, confirming that he'll once again play the role of Zeus. He told The Belfast Telegraph that he was feeling positive about the project, despite a large number of script rewrites having taken place so far.

"I've only read half of the script and there is still some work being done," he said. "They're on script ten – but I think it's going to be some kick-ass stuff and a very human story to it."

The sequel is to be directed by Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman.

Neeson went on to confirm a start date for filming, saying, "We will start next March. I'm very much looking forward to it. It's a whole revamping."

The first film came under fire for its lacklustre post-conversion 3D. When asked if the 3D work on Wrath… would fare any better, Neeson declined to discuss the matter, saying simply: "I don't know the answer to that."

I didn't see the 2010 film. Was it worth a sequel?

It made $493 million worldwide on a budget of $125 million... no world record but certainly profitable enough to warrant a sequel.

Not at all, IMO. It could have used another 20 minutes of character fleshing-out, and about 30 minutes less mindless action, and then maybe it would have been. As it was, utterly forgettable.

That's too bad. The original was a fixture of my childhood. It was on HBO every other day, twice-a-day back in the 1980s.

The original is much better, and holds up well if you enjoy stop-motion special effects by Harryhausen and don't go in judging it against cutting edge ILM CGI stuff.

It's too bad we can't have both. I've been wanting to see Greek mythology brought to life with CGI ever since Jurassic Park...

I watched it again in the past year and have to diagree -- while the new one sucked, the old one has really awful acting and can get pretty boring at times.

Yeah, but you don't like Wrath of Khan. I probably do like it (Titans) because I grew up watching it on TV 1000 times and I've always been a huge Harryhausen fan. Those things color my perception undoubtedly.

Yeah, I like dubious films from my youth as well (see my avatar, for example).
