The Allman Brothers Band dig into their extensive archives for a legendary 1971 performance that’s set for rerelease in January.

The second in the band’s archival series, "S.U.N.Y. at Stonybrook 9/19/71" was recorded, as the title suggests, on September 19, 1971 at the State University of New York, and it features the band at their absolute peak.

The album was originally released as the second in the band's self distributed archive series in 2003, but had fallen out of print.

Guitarist Duane Allman was tragically killed less than six weeks after this recording was made, making it one of the last live performances from the original line-up.

This second ABB archive release contains one of the best “Dreams” ever captured on tape and a rare “Blue Sky” with Duane.

The recording is made from the original analog 2-track tapes, not multi-tracked, and the mix improves from the beginning through about the first 3-4 songs, as the ABB soundman was tweaking the sound "on the fly."

This set comes out the same day as Gregg Allman’s “Low Country Blues” - his first solo album in 14 years (the last one was 1997’s “Searching For Simplicity.”)

Wonder what is up with archive releases as they are re-releasing one that has been previosuly available but have not released a new archive release in quite sometime. I am sure there is plenty in the vault that fans would love to have. The releases have been very sporadic at best.

I was at that show. Stony Brook showed the Allmans alot of love during 70-71. First time ABB played at the school was opening for Chicago May'70. I was there to see Chicago since their 2nd album was just out
( their best?). But Chicago had to play first and delivered a satisfactory set. I was not familiar with the Allmans and they proceeded to Blow Our Minds! It was fresh, powerful and memorable to this day!
They also played with Delaney and Bonnie in October of that year and then this gig in Sept 71, weeks before Duane passed on. Wet Willie opened and I became a fan of them as well.
