LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday.
DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner's Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
"I can't even find the words to say," Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow."
Quiet Riot, which was founded in the mid-1970s, topped the Billboard charts in 1983 with the album "Metal Health," spurred on by the massive hit single "Cum on Feel the Noize."
The band has since endured break-ups and personnel changes but released a new album in 2006 and continued to tour sporadically.

The most astute observation about QR I've ever heard was, IIRC, by Hal Sparks on an episode of "I Love The '80s."
The lead singer of Quiet Riot looks like the lead singer of a Quiet Riot tribute band.
Oh, those wacky VH1 shows-I'm sure that line about Kevin DuBrow had all the writers giggling for hours.
When you find yourself appearing on a show called "I Love The 80's" taking the time to comment on Quiet Riot you know you've hit rock bottom.
DuBrow was a coked-up loudmouth and looked like a buffoon back in te day, but QR has some decent moments and Carlos Cavazo was a very good guitarist. QR were doomed by the cartoonish image and the pitiful lyrics ("Party All Night" anyone?), but they really did make Metal a marketing machine for the 80's when "Metal Health" hit #1 in Nov. 1983 the same month I saw them open for Black Sabbath in Philly. They were fun but not really a Metal band-I think we booed them actually! Anyway, it's a shame he died so young.
RIP Mr. DuBrow

Quiet Riot had a decent debut album - of course, Metal Health technically wasn't a debut, but I think for most fans in the US, it pretty much was as the Randy Rhoads albums were never released here.
But the problem was they followed the same blueprint for the followup, Condition Critical and that's where I lost interest. They tried changing their sound and image (DuBrow got a hairpiece) a bit for QR III, but by then it was over and a year later, DuBrown was fired and the band broke up after one album with Paul Shortino on lead vocals that went absolutely nowhere.
Still, their cover of "Cum On Feel The Noize" is an '80s metal classic and it's sad to see someone die so young.

Apparently Dubrow needed a little "rehab" himself. Now he's even more useless than I thought he was before. Over the hill, used up idiot OD-ing on coke. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb!

Agreed.
Maybe DuBrow should have stopped "Partying All Night."

Well, despite the fact he said Quiet Riot would not continue on without the late Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali has revived Quiet Riot with bassist Chuck Wright, guitarist Alex Grossi and vocalist Mark Huff.
So, now there's a "Quiet Riot" out there with no original members. Once again, $$$ wins out over integrity, eh, Mr. Banali?

Are any of the other surviving original members even still involved in music? I know Kelly Garni was getting back into it, but what about Drew Forsyth?
Somewhat tangentially related, yesterday would have been Randy Rhoads's 54th birthday.

Yeah-Banali did a 360 there. But the 3 musicians are all former members so they have the right to do so. Thing is-nobody cared about them WITH DuBrow in the latter years, so I guess it's on to playing Ihops and Diners. The new guy can definitely sing his ass off and the fans seem OK with it looking at the comments. The crowd reaction seemed great too. Whatever. Here's a clip for what it's worth.

I bought Metal Health back in the day, but I lost interest after the second album and IMO, their music hasn't aged well. But I guess these guys have to make a living somehow.

Hey, that new singer has a hell of a voice!
Yeah-he is pretty damn good. Impressive actually. The guys have every right to carry on and make a living. I liked a few QR albums and they really weren't that bad. I think DuBrow ruined things with his coked up obnoxiousness and the band had enormous success way too soon. Plus, the songwriting was pretty weak, hence each album only had a few truly decent songs. Carlos Cavazo (now in Ratt) was a great guitar player.

Singer Huff lashes back after being fired while he’s in hospital – but band say they won’t dignify his comments
Sacked Quiet Riot singer Mark Huff has lashed out at his former bandmates from his hospital bed, saying the first he knew of his dismissal was when he read a public announcement.
The frontman says he’s disgusted at the band’s actions in replacing him with former Montrose singer Keith St John. But drummer Frankie Banali says it wouldn’t be in Huff’s interests to publicise the reason for his sacking.
Soon after Quiet Riot announced their move Huff took to his Facebook page and said: “As I sit in hospital and wait for my brain surgery, I have been let go. And nobody’s had balls to tell it to my face. I have to read the news in a post that’s not even directed to me. WTF?
“Let me tell all my friends: don’t count my out. Watch what happens. It’s obvious what I ever meant to this situation. I deserve better treatment. Don’t worry about me, worry about your own bad selves. I am gonna take the high road – I have so much shit I could speak. Stay tuned.”
Banali later replied: “Mr Huff’s medical condition had nothing to do with the decision that was made, although it is unfortunate that it comes at such a time.
“His wife assured me Mark would be home this week, and as legal protocol dictated, a certified letter was sent informing Mark of the decision that was made, and why it was made.
“The content of that letter is a private matter unless Mr Huff decides to make the reason for his dismissal public, which I believe would be counterproductive for him.”
Huff was hired in 2010 as replacement for Kevin DuBrow, whose death in 2007 put the band on their fourth hiatus since forming in 1973.
