'The Thing' remake set for October 2011 releaseFilm out on October 14 November 24, 2010 http://www.nme.com/movies/news/the-thin ... ase/198720 The remake of the classic sci-fi horror The Thing will open on October 14 next year. The release date was announced by studio Universal on the company's official Twitter page, Twitter.com/universalpics, today (November 24). The prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 remake of Howard Hawks' 1951 The Thing From Another World is to be directed by Matthijs van Heijningen. It will be written by Eric Heisserer (from a previous draft by Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D Moore). Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as the palaeontologist unearthing the shape-shifter's ship in the Antarctic ice. The film is currently being shot in Toronto.

Another one, huh? Well, it is a perennial favorite. I'm sure this will be okay, but the John Carpenter one is pure magic in the timelessness of the effects used.

Hate to spoil this for anyone, but it will end with a dog running away in the snow.

Personally I've found the original story and original movie version enough for me.

If this is just a REMAKE, then they can change characters and do whatever they want. If this is a PREQUEL, then supposedly it will take place at the Norweigan camp that was devastated by The Thing and it will end with a helicopter chasing after a dog running away in the snow.

It is supposed to be a prequel to the Carpenter version(according to him at Texas Frightmare Weekend this past year), so yes, it should end with a dog running away in the snow followed by men with guns in a helicopter.

It would have been nice if someone had told me this was good. Thanks a lot.
Caught it on cable. Liked it just fine. Sort of a complete repeat of the first one, but with slightly different special effects.

I posted that I liked the prequel, somewhere in the Movie a Day thread I think...

It also hints that there could be another one somewhere else. What happened to the girl? Where did she go?
