I agree with the Hort.

But, to be fair, what's the competition, really? POCAHONTAS? Is there anything else even in the running?

Yes. Pieces of April, which may just be better than Planes.

The only other one I can think of is The Ice Storm.

One of the mock coming attractions in Grindhouse was for a horror film titled "Thanksgiving." I woulda payed to see that one for real.

I would categorize Pieces of April more as an indie drama than as a "chick flick." Do you know what the movie is about?

Do you believe that I would have categorized the film if I had not seen (part of) it?

Sundance Channel pap, says I.

It was probably on the Sundance Channel because it was showed at the Sundance Festival. "Pap" implies it (and by implication, ANY film that runs at the Festival) is bad. I maintain it's a damn good movie and maybe the best movie I've seen ABOUT Thanksgiving.

Always wonder what happens after the end. Does Del settle down in the city? Does he hit the road?

Home For The Holidays is a Thanksgiving movie, I think.

Thanksgiving set movies not mentioned:

Hannah and her Sisters

Miracle on 34th Street starts at Thanksgiving

Son In Law-Pauly Shore is brought home at Thanksgiving. Certainly his best movie.

Charlie Brown also has a Thanksgiving Special and Linus makes a speech again.

The Myth of Fingerprints

Also, though nothing to do with Thanksgiving, King KOng, Mighty Joe Young, and March of the Wooden Soldiers (with laurel and hardy) will always be associated with Thanksgiving to me because they aired every Thanksgiving day,and no other, when I was a kid for years

What about that Thanksgiving movie that was advertised at the showing of Grindhouse? I never saw it but it looked scary.

This one was interesting, and even a little creepy.

Inspired casting, making Noah Wyle and Michael Vartan brothers. They really do look a lot alike.

A Christmas Story begins at Thanksgiving, too, if I'm not mistaken. That doesn't make it a Thanksgiving movie though, imo.

Hannah and Her Sisters is segmented by showing the family gathering over three Thanksgivings.
