Marvel planning spin-off for 'Iron Man''s War Machine
Sidekick to get his own film after 'The Avengers'

Following Marvel Studios' plans for Iron Man 3 in 2013, they have announced they are now planning a spin-off for film for the character's sidekick, War Machine. The studio also have plans to release Thor and Captain America in 2011, while The Avengers is set for 2012.

Pajiba.com is reporting that a pitch for a War Machine film has gone out to writers and an official announcement is expected to follow shortly.

In the comics, War Machine is the nickname of a second suit of armour created by Tony Stark that is used by his friend, Air Force Colonel James 'Rhodey' Rhodes.

Actor Don Cheadle has played the part in both Iron Man films, and is expected to reprise his role for both the The Avengers and the standalone film.

Except, of course, Don Cheadle wasn't in the first movie.

Oh good. Superhero movies are going to be just like superhero comic books. Keep throwing stuff up on the wall and see what will make money.

I have no interest in seeing this movie. I suspect that will be the case for a lot of people.

By the way... Don Cheadle? NOT in the first Iron Man movie. I just wanted to get that out there before we went any further.

Looks like it would be a great excuse for showing characters flying through the air and blowing stuff up. What more do you need for a summer blockbuster movie?

I hope no one is surprised by that misreport concerning Cheadle being in both Iron Man movies. I see this kind of thing all the time.

He's been down that Rhodes before.

I'd go see this because I love robotic suits flying around but I'm about as excited for a War Machine movie as I am a War Machine comic -- not really. Some characters just work better in a supporting role.

Speaking of bad journalism, has anyone pointed out that Don Cheadle didn't play Rhodey in the first Iron Man movie? Only the second? There's some bad journalisms right there, boy.

good to have a quality investigative reporter about now.

If you say "Cheadle" a lot, it starts to sound funny.
