Where's Eric!, the Eric Clapton Fan Club Magazine is reporting that the classic Derek and The Dominos 1970 album 'Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs' will be getting a 40th anniversary remastered release in three different editions in March 2011.
Although track lists haven't been revealed yet, there will be a new CD remaster from the UK master tapes, a two-disc "Deluxe Edition" and a "Super Deluxe Edition" with 4 CD's, 1 DVD and 2 LP's.
In late August 1970, Derek and The Dominos - Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock - convened in Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida with producer Tom Dowd to record "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs." Following an invitation from Clapton, Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band joined in on the now-historic sessions. The band finished recording in September and the double LP was released that December.
In 2000, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2003 the TV network VH1 named 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs' the 89th greatest album of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 115 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Again?!!! What could they add to this that was not already on the 3 Disc Remix/Remaster 20th anniversary Box.? The Hybrid SACD of the original mix sounds great already, plus it has a 5.1 mix. MO MONEY! MO MONEY!

There must already be 5 or 6 different cd releases of this album.

I only have the old 3 disc box set, so if there's anything significant new on this, I might go for it.
(Alot of the long jams on the box set aren't that interesting)

I have the SACD. The only thing i could think of that might make me bite would be a concert superior to the official live album & a very low price.

I'm not holding my breath, but I would pay a premium for a concert recording with Duane. Am I right in thinking he only played one show with the band--in Tampa?

Amazing. I have the SACD & really like the way it sounds. The 20th Anniversary remix is just so-so IMHO. I've read that this wasn't the best recorded album - lots of praise "over there" for the original CD issue that was done by Dennis Drake - but I've never heard it.

Interesting you say that about the original CD release, Dbin, because back in the day CD Review (remember that mag, ICErs?) had that as a CD to avoid because of poor sound quality and a wall of tape hiss sound.

Interesting - unfortunately, I can't comment on the original because I don't have it. When I got the SACD Hybrid (and I should mention that I don't have an SACD player - so I listened to the regular stereo mastering) I thought it gave the songs some real "life". The 20th Anniversary remix just sounds "flat" to me - nothing to get excited about - but I probably should give it another chance. The only other place I have this song is on Time Pieces & while I generally like the sound on that comp, I don't like the mastering on "Layla". (It almost seems like they didn't have a good source on that song. But I'm only speculating.) Depending on the reviews, I might be tempted to ride again.

IMO, most 1st gen 80's cd's sounded like poop. There seems to be a big revisionist movement on that these days; I suspect it's driven by modern overuse of compression & eq. At the time, to my ears most early 80's cd's sounded somewhat like a cassette tape; due to poor quality a/d coinvertors & several generation removed safety copies of master tapes.

I have the MFSL gold with the original mix and it sounds fine to my ears. But that statement is useless without... WAVEFORMS!!

I only have the original, and it sounds decent enough to me (although I haven't listened to it in quite a while). Depending on the extras, I might just pony up for a re-issue. Uh, dude, until you post an equipment profile and waveforms to back up your wild allegations of good sound, don't even bother trying to tell us anything. I mean, are you trying to tell us you're relying on your ears? And your own judgment? Um, no, that's not gonna fly he-- Oops! Wrong forum! Carry on!

Allman perform two shows with the group at Curtis Hixon Hall, in Tampa, Florida, on 1 December 1970, and at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, New York, the following night. Neither show was professionally recorded, but I believe the shows were bootlegged. fixed link http://www.yourwaytomusic.com/layla-get ... t-formats/The set will be available in three formats: 1 newly remastered CD 2 2CD Deluxe Edition 3 4CD/1DVD/2LP Super Deluxe Edition The provisional details are as follows: 1. Layla remastered CD 2. Layla bonus CD (13 tracks including Johnny Cash TV Show and 6 Second album recordings) 3. Layla 5.1 Surround Sound DVD (Elliot Scheiner mixes) 4. In Concert remastered 2CDs with 4 bonus tracks Word is Bobby Whitlock has made recent overdubs on some of the second album tracks that were incomplete.

Interesting. I wonder if "In Concert" will follow the original 2 LP set or if it will be the "Live at the Fillmore" CD set (wasn't that one basically an expanded version of "In Concert"?). I'd like to finally have the "In Concert" on CD, for sake of completeness.

I only know the Live at the Fillmore, so I like it, but I now many familiar with the original who don't care for what was done.
