We all know the great plagiarism cases where artists sue each other, like the great Coldplay/Joe Satriani/Cat Stevens one, or My Sweet Lord/He's So Fine, or Rubinoos/Avril Lavigne, but what about the ones you hear on record, but nobody sues over?
I suppose the main reason nobody sues over an album track, is there's not much to be recovered, and only the lawyers will get anything.
Oasis' Step Out was set to be the leadoff single from What's The Story Morning Glory, but when the label pointed out that it sounded just like Stevie Wonder's Uptight, it was pulled from the album, and it became a b-side, with a songwriting credit for Wonder/Cosby/Moy. Liz Phair's Got My Own Thing has a chorus that sounds exactly like that of Ooh Boy by Rose Royce.
XTC's Standing In For Joe sounds just like Steely Dan's Barrytown. In fact, Andy warned Colin about this before the record's release, and Colin said he'd bear all responsibility if Fagen sued them. And maybe there were quiet settlements on these that went on behind the scenes...
Any other favorite rip-offs?

The Stones gave a cowriting credit to k.d. lang when it was pointed out that the chorus of "Anybody Seen My Baby" sounded too close to "Constant Craving."

These threads drive me crazy because all that shows up on the computer I'm using are empty boxes. It's my wife's laptop and I guess it has to do with her internet settings, so I'm not messing with them. We'll be getting a second computer again soon and then maybe I can catch up on all of these threads with embedded videos. In the meantime ... grrrrrrr!

They seem to use a lot of ram &/or bandwidth. on the topic, Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird / Pachelbel's canon.

Steve wrote: I want a new drug ... GHOSTBUSTERS! That one was litigated. They wound up settling out of court, with a confidentiality clause. Huey talked about the lawsuit on Behind The Music, and now Ray Parker is suing him for breach of that clause. I still say that that's Huey's karmic reward for stealing the opening lyrics to Do You Believe In Love from ELO's Sweet Talkin' Woman.

However, I should point out that NEITHER Huey Lewis nor Ray Parker were sued by M for stealing that riff from "Pop Musik."
