Pretty sure no one's posted this yet. Note the specific shipping date.... LOS ANGELES – To celebrate the release of Fun House in the summer of 1970, The Stooges brought the uncompromising ferocity of their second album to New York City and unleashed it within the cramped confines of Ungano’s, a hole-in-the-wall club on the Upper West Side. A reel-to-reel set up in the audience recorded the manic maelstrom as the band performed the entire album – except “L.A. Blues” – along with the until-now unreleased tracks “Have Some Fun” and “My Dream Is Dead.” Rhino Handmade brings to light this legendary unreleased show in its entirety on a single disc accompanied by a poster, two glossy photos taken that night, and new liner notes composed by Lenny Kaye. Shipping November 16, HAVE SOME FUN: LIVE AT UNGANO’S will be available for pre-order on October 25 exclusively at http://www.rhino.com for $19.98. The adrenalin-drenched set features singer Iggy Pop, guitarists Ron Asheton and Bill Cheatham, drummer Scott Asheton, bassist Zeke Zettner and saxophonist Steve Mackay. The band closes the show with a 10-minute-plus psychedelic, freak out jam featuring two unreleased tracks, “Have Some Fun” and “My Dream Is Dead.” Musician and writer Lenny Kaye attended the show and transports you there in the album’s liner notes: “The sound comes in sheets of earsplitting noise, dense and bleating, as if a sheep is being led to slaughter. You can literally hear the ’60s gasping for breath, the totemic sacrifice of The Stooges.” The same day HAVE SOME FUN will be released, Rhino Handmade will also rerelease 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions. This seven-disc boxed set topped Rhino Handmade’s poll earlier this year to determine which of the label’s sold-out titles to put back in print. The reissued collection – which will not be individually numbered, preserving the collectability of the initial release – will be offered in its original packaging for $119.98. This Holy Grail among Handmade titles, the original 1999 pressing for The Complete Fun House Sessions was limited to 3,000 copies, contains 142 tracks (109 music and 33 studio dialogue) whose nearly eight hours document every take from every Fun House session, in order, exactly as The Stooges recorded them. The set includes six CDs packaged in standard jewel cases, each with an eight-page folder. The seventh is packaged in a die-cut cardboard sleeve as a replica of the original Elektra single for “Down On The Street” b/w “1970 (I Feel Alright).”

Shit. I voted for the Monkees.
That said, exactly what was the source for this particular press release? I know I didn't get any e-mail from Rhino about it.

I'm about to call bullshit on all of these Stooges/Rhino Handmade rumors. Outside of a bunch of postings on message boards--either this board, a Stooges board, or Hoffman's--I've not found anything on the internet to corroborate any of these claims.

I'm not sure why this isn't on a Rhino website yet, but all the info in the initial post is direct from Rhino itself, with no corrections released since.

Rhino does, in fact, own the Ungano's tapes, they have for a while. As to why something supposedly ready for pre-order in a few days is not even mentioned on the site, well, Rhino's track record ain't exactly rating 5 stars these days. Hopefully, this will see light of day at some point. But then, following the J. Geils debacle, who knows.

I'm just saying--it's entirely possible that somebody is out there getting their jollies by starting false rumors. Let's recap:
1. The Stooges "won" the Rhino Handmade poll--by some accounts, by a landslide. 2. Rhino issued a "secret code" to people who ordered a Stooges set earlier this year. According to some, the secret code is "FUNHOUSE". 3. Rhino has created a press release promoting a "new" Stooges live album and the "Complete Fun House Sessions" rerelease.
OK...so where is any sort of official corroboration for any of this? I love Mike Duquette's "Second Disc" blog, but when he posted on there that the Stooges had won the Rhino Handmade poll, I asked him for his source. He cited...the IMWAN boards.
I'll be the first to admit that Rhino/WEA can be a bit of a pain in the neck, but at the same time, I've ordered both Monkees sets this year from Handmade; last month I somehow managed to pre-order "Head" before the announced pre-order date.
Believe me, I would love to see Rhino reissue any and all deleted Handmade titles, but I've been on the internet long enough, and I've seen enough CD releases get announced and delayed, or announced and cancelled, to where, yes, I have become cynical.

Everything you say is absolutely true and I agree with you. Far too many "official announcements" that turn out to be anything but. And Rhino is a pale shadow of its former self. The whole "Full House" mess is proof of that. Supposedly they have the Unganos tape, that is coming from a lot of sources. An I remember reading a blurb about it on either Billboard or Rolling Stones website months ago. As you said, it's the internet, which lives by its own illogic. And, the condition of the tape, recorded on a reel-to-reel from the audience, is, as always with Stooges live tapes, probably not good. And I don't know anyone who's heard it. Has it even circulated on the net? Again, Rhino is a bit of a mess these days, and everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

You will respect my authority! Or, at the very least, give me some credit for not jumping on rumors. Again, the initial posting was an official Rhino announcement that came direct from official Rhino people. Being the modern Rhino, of course, things can go wrong.

Yes Sir!. Seriously, I heard about this at least 6 months back, and I'm hopeful that it's coming out. It's just that with announcements and un-announcements, a lot of these reissue campaigns seem to be tentative at times. At first it was thought that Easy Action had gotten a hold of those tapes (in which case it would probably be out already), now it's Rhino. But releasing it in tandem with a re-release of the Fun House box sure makes a lot of sense to me. I'd love to know the source of the tape. Danny Fields, perhaps? Also, I know there was supposed to be a deluxe "Kick Out The Jams" coming out of Rhino this year. Wonder what happened to that? Oy.

Between all of the money I've spent recently......Lennon box, Apple box, Shankar box.....I wouldn't mind one bit if this was delayed awhile.

An official announcement of all that's in the initial post was just sent out from Rhino. It includes a pre-order link.

Pre-ordered the Ungano's cd. The samples don't sound as bad as I thought they would. The vocals are there (unlike the Electric Circus tapes) and the band is loud. Sounds like a decently recorded boot of a Stooges gig circa Funhouse, how can you go wrong?

It figures my post would jinx myself.
I can't order either of these. I keep getting an error message. Just called customer services and they said they're updating the product database and to try again tomorrow.
Seeing as other people are getting their orders in, I don't know. I'll wait.
