Was the original Everquest a good game? I see that there's still a community of dedicated players out there keeping it going. I'm thinking of getting an old iBook, and while I'm not that much of a gamer, I do enjoy Dungeons & Dragons Online, and would like something similar for this beastie if I get it. The original Everquest seems to be the best option.

Trevor, what server are you on in DDO? I've got a few guys I play with regularly.
I used to play Everquest II all the time, but didn't want to pay anymore so stopped. I now have free access to it, and played it recently, and think that DDO blows it out of the water.
But with that said, to plunk around in either EQ1 or 2 would be fine. Especially if you're not paying for them.

I've got a level 6 Paladin on Orien, but I'm pretty much willing to play anywhere. I haven't really hooked up with a regular crew yet.
DDO's awesome, I like it more than Warcraft or Age of Conan.

Heh... I have a level 5 Paladin that I'm trying to get to 6. Can't remember the server we're on. I think it's worth spending the real world cash on Veteran Status. Plus you get upgraded from 2 to 4 slots when you spend any real money in the DDO store.
I really like the pay as you want content of the game, but I'm really surprised at some of the drops in the free dungeons as well. I resisted all my friends and wouldn't play WoW because I didn't want to pay every month for a game that I might leave for several weeks and/or months and then come back later.
A friend of mine that was pretty into WoW said he liked DDO better as well. He said that DDO has changed the way that companies are looking at MMORPG. He works in the industry.

I believe it. I think I read that the free-to-play, micropayments for extras was a successful Japanese model. It's worked on me, I've spent more than I would if I just went VIP lol.
The model was successful enough for Turbine to take their flagship Lord Of The Rings mmorpg down the same route. I hear LoTR is the best mmorpg of them all, but I haven't played it yet.
What's your Paladin's name? I can search online.

I'll probably start playing DDO when I get a new PC at christmas. Can you play a Drow? I assume it would be a premium race you have to pay for. How much is that?

Cool! I'll start a mage or something up on that server, and give you a hollar next time we're both on.

I'll look it up later, but I don't think it's that much. You can buy points for as cheap as $15 a bundle I think, and if you wait until they run a special, they splash the pot a bit for you. Truly, if you work hard and save your money you can buy pretty good stuff and/or get good drops from dungeons. But if you buy a module it's really a good deal. Any of your characters can play it, and they have even better drops and good experience.

It's infinitely easier, and since it's integrated into the game, it would only cost a set of headphones with a mike.

Judge WAN wrote: You can buy points for as cheap as $15 a bundle I think, and if you wait until they run a special, they splash the pot a bit for you. Part of this was true, and part wasn't. You get 400 points for $6.50. The true part is they're running a Columbus Day special. All the points get a bonus amount, but you can get 6,900 points for $50.00. That's SEVERAL add on modules, or stat tombs, etc. I'd love for Darin to try DDO and see if he likes it.

Just to download it. It's free. You can check out the hardware here: http://www.ddo.com/component/content/ar ... quirementsI wouldn't mind if anyWAN from IMWAN wanted to pick a server and start some characters there.
