Sorry, Bully. It's National Novel Writing Month. I put a link to their site in the above post.

One writes a novel in a month, writing a certain amount of words in a day.

I did it last year and completed the novel. I am considering it this year. But it takes dedication and abandoning the concern of whether the words are any good.

I'd liek to say I'd play, but I know I'll start and then never finish.

Sounds up my alley. I'll give it a shot.

My participation last year was pretty fruitful. I managed to get a 50,000-word draft written in the allotted time. And it was actually a good story, according to those who've read it (And they weren't all relatives, either!). Rather than writing a new story I need to go back and completely revise that one to improve it. Don't know when I'll have the time, though, with work and school.

I never have the time, and I have only "won" one year. Something always happens! A couple of years back I was injured on the job and couldn't type.

I can't wait to try this year, although distractions are completely new and different. I live with four children these days ... 16, 10, 6 & 18 months.

A friend of mine asked me if I knew what my novel was going to be about, and I told her that I was considering the adventures of a dwarf named Miles and his Robot-Monkey sidekick driving across the country, trying to find America. It was a smart-assed answer, off the cuff and extremely stupid ...

... but then my brain started to work on the idea. And now I have a plausible way to build at least part of my project around the existence of a Robot Monkey.

So a present for those of you who are stuck: I challenge you to find a little room in your NaNo project for a Robot Monkey.

Someone should do a National Comic Book Month, where a team must put together an entire 22 page comic book in a month.

No matter which of my tentative ideas I pursue, there will be no room for a robot monkey. Sorry.
