REM's 'Everybody Hurts' tops poll of 'songs that make men cry the most'
The Verve, U2 and Bruce Springsteen also feature in the Top 10 list

REM's 'Everybody Hurts' has topped a poll of songs that make men cry the most.

According to a survey by PRS for Music, the group's 1993 single came top of the list, followed by Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' and Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'.

"A well-written tear-jerker is one that people can relate to and empathize with," Ellis Rich, PRS for Music's chairman said in a statement. "It is this lyrical connection that can reach deep down emotionally and move even the strongest of men."

Earlier this year, 'Everybody Hurts' was chosen by Simon Cowell as a charity single to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal.

Other songs that featured in the Top 10 include U2's 'With or Without You', The Verve's 'The Drugs Don't Work' and Bruce Springsteen's 'Streets of Philadelphia'.

I only have #9. It's an old traditional Irish folk song.

I don't cry to music-it's my only escape!

Grown men cry when I sing regardless of the song.

A song or two will have an effect on me because I associate them with specific lost friends, but I can't think of a song that makes me cry solely because of the song itself.

Except for Hocus Pocus by Focus.

I was going to make a serious reply.............. but I decided that would be a really bad idea!

I'll try to be serious here


One song that does it for me is a Traffic song called "No Face, No Name, No Number" from the CD Heaven Is In Your Mind (1967) A magnificent piece of emotional music.
Also Jim Croce "Photographs And Memories" is another teary song for me.

Yet.

It was hard for me to listen to the song "All Things Must Pass" for awhile after George died.

"Disney Girls," obviously.

For me, just one..."Wonderful World", Louis Armstrong.

You have a legitimate reason.

"She Bang" by William Hung does it too, but lets face it that one gets to everybody.

That has to be one of the worst lists of songs that supposedly evoke ANY type of emotion from men, let alone crying, that I could possibly think of. Why didn't they just throw "Feelings" on there for good measure?
