Here are some things I miss reading in comics:

1 - Letters pages. Some still have them, which gives me hope.
2 - "The end... for now!"
3 - Footnotes, such as "* See Avengers # 198 to see what Wonder Man means - ed."
4 - Bullpen Bulletins and the monthly checklist with story summary.
5 - "Thank you and good afternoon."

How about you folks?

I miss the ads for buying back issues of comic books.

I miss the ads for onion gum, X-Ray specs, and glow-in-the-dark skeletons
—the stuff that filled a page with twenty items or more in tiny boxes.

Also, the foot locker that held over 100 army men, tanks, ships, or Roman
Soldiers.

That's the one. When I ordered the army one, it was only $1. They were all flat
plastic (2-D) figures on plastic stands. Not as good as regular army men, but
still decent enough for the money. It was hard to get them back into the box.

I like how it lists the SUperman artwork was donated by Curt Swan.
Way to go, Curt!

I was probably overly influenced by the Become a Drafter ads in the 70's comics.

Did anybody ever order the 7 foot Frankenstein? I wanted one of those.
I used to order all the back issue catalogs from people.

Those are all great.
When I was a kiddo I would read the Mile High Comics ads and dream of having various comics, in those days before Trade Paperbacks.
Remember all the Hero's World ads? I went to one...and met spider-man! I'll post it while I visit the home folks if I can find it.

Try Dark Horse's gold Key books.
-Both Doctor Solar #1 & Magnus Robot Fighter #1 had something like a bullpen page by the editor.
-Doctor Solar #2 has 2 letters pages.
-Issues end on cliffangers with "next:" and the tittle of the next issue.
-The writing of Jim Shooter is old schooll and story-filled. Compression, not decompression.
here are two page from Doctor Solar #2 by new artist Roger Robinson:

Meant to put that! +1
Marvel Team-Up #107 (by Jim Shooter and Herb Trimpe, I think) advertised 163 panels, on the cover, along with lots of other copy---and that included room for 2 splash pages! Spider-man and She-Hulk versus the Man-Killer! Remember how the endings were usually downbeat and/or shocking? That one was intriguing. And had goils. (O'Neil/Adams relevance haters, steer clear! But at eight, I found it a masterpiece.)

I'm not the only one who went through his school day and what-not thinking in word balloons, now was I?

Any LaSalle graduates here on IMWAN? LOL Look who's smiling now.

Or did an insult make a man out of you, Mac?

I included a burritos ad featuring Teaseberry and Shahlihli the Faeries versus the Four Armed Men. One version advertised Valentine's, the local family Mexican restaurant that carried a basket of my home made indie comics, and the other, the cupcake store on my block, where i was trying to get a book in (they were still too new and busy). The Search for Complete Disappearland! is the book.

I miss the newsprint. I liked that about comics, that they were printed on newspaper.

Something I certainly miss. They're such a powerful tool, essentially unique to the medium of comics. I can understand not wanting to overuse it, but there's no reason they should have been all but phased out.

If we're talking about ad nostalgia, I loved the old Gandalf Products Company ads than ran in Gold Key comics. They had some groovy stuff!

I'd also like to know who won the various contests posted on the covers during the late 70s and early 80s.

Who starred in Superman 2?
Who was featured in a comic?
