Product Description
THE 4 COMPLETE ED SULLIVAN SHOWS STARRING THE BEATLES,DIGITALLY REMASTERED AND INCLUDING SOME PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED MATERIAL, TO BE ISSUED ON DVD BY UNIVERSAL MUSIC ENTERPRISES

When The Beatles stepped onto Sullivan's New York stage on Sunday, February 9, 1964, to make their American TV debut, 86 percent of all TVs on at that hour--73 million Americans--tuned in. It was the most-watched program in history to that point and remains one of the most-watched programs of all time.

Nearly 50 years after the four landmark live performances of The Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show," those legendary appearances with newly remastered audio and carefully restored video will finally be made available worldwide on home video through a major distributor. The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles will be released September 7, 2010. The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles was produced by SOFA Entertainment.

"We used the full extent of today's technology," says Andrew Solt, Executive Producer and CEO of SOFA Entertainment. "The quality is better than it ever was, in fact, better than when the shows aired, especially visually. For example, the February 16 performance was from Miami's Deauville Hotel, not from a studio. The quality of the tape image was very fragile. We went back and improved it frame by frame."

With a running time of more than 250 minutes, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles presents those shows uncut, including not only all of the other performances but also all of the original commercials. The audio is available in both mono and a 5.1 remix. In addition, the new DVD set has been augmented with approximately 13 minutes of additional footage.

I was wondering the same thing. The previous version had been available in 4 different box covers (different colors), I have the one in black and gray like you show above. According to what I read somewhere else, this new version supposedly has some extra and possibly backstage interviews. The Amazon timing shown on the new release must be in error, as it is listed at 90 minutes, it should be somewhere around 240 minutes.

Previously Unreleased Beatles Footage From Their Landmark Appearances on Ed Sullivan TV Show Is Coming to DVD
USA Today

At this point, one would have thought that all of the Beatles-related material from their appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" would have made it to market.

Not so.

"On Sept. 7, UMe will reissue "The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring the Beatles" with 13 minutes of previously unreleased footage...," USA Today reports today, June 22, in its print edition.

The additional footage, the article says, "includes an ad for Beatles dolls and [Sullivan's] interview with members of the band, not seen since it aired on May 24, 1964."

Also, the story says, the reissue is newly remastered, with audio in mono and a 5.1 remix. Furthermore, the four episodes have the original commercials included from 1964 and 1965.

The Beatles' appearance on Sullivan's show on Feb. 9, 1964 was seen by 73 million viewers, which represented 86% of all TVs turned on at the time, and was the most-watched TV program of all-time up to that point in time.

The reason I asked about the difference between the 2 versions was because I was thinking of getting this from Netflix.......... but they've "run out of" disc 1's & only offer disc 2. Grr.

Early warning: BB is going to have this at $11.99 next week, & Amazon has already price matched. At that price, I may pick this up.
