I suggest using a high quality regular turntable connected through a high quality stereo system (ie phono preamp) to a stand alone non pc dvd recorder. They work very similar to an old style cassette deck & tend to have better sound then pc's. I've had very good luck with a Philips CDR 880 that I've owned for over 10 years. My understanding is that the Allesis pro cd recorder may be the best on the market. Units from Meridian (VERY EXPENSIVE) & Pioneer also seem to be highly regarded.
Check out what Brian @ Coverville has to say about the NUMARK USB turntable. NUMARK is apparently the same and the ION but with a pitch control added. Both companies have the same address.
