If the i-tunes bonus tracks from V1 are on the Japan set I'm going to be pissed.

The original "Toms Diner" was accapella. How do you get more intimate than that?

I wish they'd learn that playing this bonus tracks game just pisses people off. With her first version, I would have bought the CD, but then I found out about the bonus tracks on iTunes and ultimately waited to see what happened. In the end, I got a copy of everything, including the bonus tracks from a friend. Their game playing cost them my sale.

While I did buy the first edition, I agree with you 100%

I just don't get this download-only bonus track business for Suzanne. I think most of her fans would want to own a REAL CD with ALL of the music on it. This really makes me not want to buy ANY of it!!!

At least non i-tunes users like me get the downloads this time. I was really pissed w/ vol 1, where the only way to get them was i-tunes.

So I got the Japanese version that includes both volumes in one 2-CD set... and I must say I find the whole project rather boring. The stripped down format is just very tiring over the course of two CDs (and I can't imagine having to sit through 2 more volumes!). I have followed Suzanne from the very beginning, and I've seen her live 3 times, so it's not that I don't like her. She is a great songwriter, but her voice is just rather one-dimensional, and I felt the production of her albums made the songs and her performances more interesting. I am sure I will get the next two volumes, but I am fairly certain I won't be listening to these very often.

Does the Japan 2 cd have all the "bonus" tracks from both volumes?

No the Japanese version has 12 tracks on Volume 1, and 14 on Volume 2 (just one bonus track, "Song Of Sand").

I so totally agree with the people who are really annoyed that there's no way to obtain the tracks in a physical format. Do the people who manage artists like Vega, Aimee Mann, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Heart etc. not GET who their fans are and their general age-group/preference for tangible product with full fidelity, artwork and credits? I realize the CD market is shrinking and some people are perfectly content with MP3-quality downloads to listen to on their computers and ipods and don't care about lyrics or who played guitar on a particular track; I'm not one of those people. I've bought untold numbers of Japanese CDs at twice the price of the U.S. version just to get one additional song, including Vega's Beauty & Crime. I'm perfectly willing to pay for it, but when the physical CD option isn't even offered, that makes me want to NOT buy any version of the album, and I refuse to purchase it twice, once for the disc and art and a second time as a download to get the extra tracks (which inevitably don't have any lyrics, credits etc.). I do not generally support the idea of downloading music for free, but ... when an artist is basically squeezing every last penny out of me by saying, "I know you want ALL my music, so you have to buy it 2-3 times in multiple formats — including ones you do not like — to get every single song!" then I feel almost obligated to return the shafting ... by not buying it at all and obtaining it "elsewhere." I'm really sorry Suzanne. Wait, this isn't a Hollies thread?

By the way, I'd be very surprised if, after all four volumes in this series are released individually, they don't then release a box-set collecting all four, probably containing a bonus disc with all the extra tracks. That would be the calculated, greedy, planned well-in-advance thing to do ... and THAT, I would buy.

Bonus update, and no, you don't have to download it; you can read it here for free: I just noticed on Amazon, they have listed an Amazon Exclusive "Deluxe Edition" but despite it being released in three days on Oct. 12 ... there's NO track listing:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0045JKHE6/?tag=imwan-20

I also note it says, "This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply." I looked at the MP3 version of the Deluxe Edition, which does list the tracks, and it has 17 as opposed to the regular's 13. Sooooo, you get the whole album as a CD-R? And you get four bonus tracks (Song Of Sand, Priscilla, Wooden Horse and Luka (Spanish)), but are still missing two on her website download pre-order (Room Off the Street and Frank & Eva)?

Could they make the whole process of being a fan of an artist and just trying to buy their ENTIRE new album any more infuriating? Talk about the myopia of screwing the very die-hard fans who WANT to support you if they didn't have to jump through hoop after hoop just to get all the mu$ic, and not giving them a choice of formats ... unbelievable.

Geof, I agree with your post. (Could it be the name similarity??!).

While the entire thing sucks, the reason i ordered direct from Vega is in exchange for paying the premium price I SUPPOSEDLY get all 6 bonus tracks (though on icky mp3). So far, they've only allowed me to dl 1 "bonus". They said something about a download card, so I assume I get the other 5 dl's when the cd actually arrives.

& yes, if there ends up being a box with the "bonus" racks on cd or in lossless, I'm going to be beyond pissed.

Geff,

I just received my CD, and you are correct. There's a little card enclosed with a 21-digit code that you enter at the 'Nimbit' web site to gain access to the download files. This whole business is just totally maddening. Like 99% of sane people, I would have preferred to have a real CD with these tracks and would have been happy to pay for it. What does an artist gain from handling things this way other than ill will?

I honestly think that they don't have a clue what the fans really want. They're just listening to managers and advisors who think this is the way to go because that's what "the kids" want. To me, getting a download card with a CD is kind of like buying a DVD and getting the bonus scenes on a VHS tape.

What a brilliant analogy! Of course, given the caliber of the 'suits' running things, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see something like this in real life.

Amazon now lists the tracks to their "Deluxe Version" of the CD (which it says is pressed as a CD-R):

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0045JKHE6/?tag=imwan-20

And, unfortunately, like their Deluxe MP3 version, it does only have seventeen tracks, missing two others that apparently are only on her official website's nineteen-track download version...

Playing as we speak. It's good, imo MUCH better then Volume 1. With both cd's, I purchased the real cd & then burned a cdr including both the real & all mp3 bonus tracks.
