Sounds like the title of a ROCKING effort, which would be much welcome, IMO.

I love Costello...I'm just tiring of his 'eclecticism' of late. I used to follow him on all his musical travels, but the last 10 years or so has been rough going for me. His last great album was When I Was Cruel, IMO.

Momofuku is really good. I also like River In Reverse, but I like Allen Toussaint and New Orleans music. WIWC is great.

The article that Charles posted above has now been updated with this additional information:
Quote:
As noted in an earlier post, Costello has had a particularly busy year, touring behind his last album, overseeing the release of some rare live albums (most recently January street of the Live At Hollywood High recordings from 1978) and wrapping up his second (and it would appear final) season of his "Spectacle" music/interview series on The Sundance Channel. He also recently debuted a new song "Jimmie Standing In the Rain" during a four-song performance on The Prairie Home Companion. Listen below:
Elvis Costello's 'National Ransom' Track Listing Revealed
by Tim Cashmere - August 14 2010
Last year after Elvis Costello made a sojourn into the world of country and bluegrass music and now he’s following it up with more of the same.
The British singer’s next album will be entitled ‘National Ransom’ and sees him once again team up with legendary Americana producer T-Bone Burnett.
The cover is a fantastic take on various global currencies with a picture of a rather dapper looking wolf racing off with a bag full of flaming cash.
The album was recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles. It will be in stores on October 1 in Australia, October 25 in Europe and November 2 in North America.
The track listing is:

As of right now, only track 1, the title track, is up. I liked it. Pretty similar to the stuff on Secret Profane & Sugarcane....but a pretty rockin' song.
All of the rest of the tracks currently have 30 seconds of bizarre classical music.....(I don't have any of EC's classical albums to know where it's from).

Most EC diehards already know this, but if you order the album directly (at http://www.nationalransom.com) you can get a download of the upcoming "National Ransack" EP, which has two songs and two covers from the sessions.
Personally, I think the album's pretty good, and I'm still on the fence about Secret, Profane & Sugarcane.
