Description
On 4 October 2010, EMI/Harvest will release "An Introduction To Syd Barrett", a brand new collection that will bring together for the first time the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett on one compilation. David Gilmour, who originally worked with Syd Barrett on the solo albums by co-producing "The Madcap Laughs" and as producer of "Barrett", has taken the role of executive producer for the album and has, along with Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria Studios, remixed five tracks including 'Octopus', 'She Took A Long Cool Look', 'Dominoes' and 'Here I Go' on which David Gilmour has added and played bass guitar. Pink Floyd's 'Matilda Mother' also receives a fresh 2010 Mix. Brand new artwork has been provided by Storm Thorgerson and his estimable studio.

WOW! I'll be getting this! Very cool cover and glad to see David Gilmour taking a major part in this.
I love Syd and the first Pink Floyd album is one of my favorites of all time.

I wonder if this may mean there are going to be more Pink Floyd unreleased tapes issued?

Dave Gilmour might have got all sentimental at last about those unreleased Floyd tapes in the sky.

Ummagumma the lost tapes?

Piper Gates of Unreleased?

The Lost Echo ?

:ohyes:

Hmmmmm...people here trashed the Stones for adding new parts to Exile rare tracks-does Gilmour deserve the same?
It's all fine with me, though I'd prefer it not be done, but if it imporves things and maintains the shape of the songs, that's a good thing.
I'll probably get this and listen to it twice-but I'll get it.

used to do 'see emily play' in my old band.
i'm currently in the process of laying down
vocal tracks for an electronic version of
'golden hair'. syd/floyd were huge influences.

Syd has never received proper recognition as a solo artist. Although not always consistent, his solo songs were just as good as anything he wrote for The Pink Floyd--some better. I find this to be particularly true on his first solo album.

I was never much of a Pink Floyd fan after Syd left. I love Piper At The Gates Of Dawn....then prefer his solo albums over most other Floyd......(I do like Meddle).

However, I'm hesitant about the remixes, and this isn't at the top of my list.

Where are Scream Your Last Scream and Vegetable Man? EMI have no idea what they're doing when it comes to Pink Floyd or Syd Barrett. Every collector knows about these songs so why no official release. Omitting them (and Let's Roll Another One for that matter) makes this comp completely useless. :(

Perhaps these will finally be released on a future Floyd Box or compilation ?

I just played this for the first time in several years. This is a great comp. I really like the remixes. You get to hear quite different instrumental parts - in particular, Floyd's "Matilda Mother (Alternative Version) (2010 Mix)" goes on for longer than the original and has some nice jamming during the fade as well as an extra verse. I would really like a "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" deluxe edition with all the non-album singles and any live material from the period, out-takes ("Scream Thy Last Scream...", "Vegetable Man" anything else) and remixes where possible (I know some of the multi-tracks are missing) in addition to the original stereo and mono mixes. I'm sure they could assemble 4 or 5 CDs of material.

There is a ton of stuff in the can from this era, besides outtakes and jams and the now infamous Black Friday ep, they also have a bunch of Piper era - never circulated soundboards of live shows
