I've always kinda dug this character. I first saw him in an issue of The Thing where he, She-Hulk and Spider-Man were possessed by the Puppet Master and forced to fight the title character. One of the things I liked about the character was the narrator made mention of his "bizarre eyes" but his sunglasses never came off during the fight, so it was a mystery (kind of like Dr. Doom's face used to be). I still like the character, but I didn't care for the "ionic energy" powers he later developed. I liked the simplicity of this super-strong guy. He hasn't had the best costumes in the world, though. I actually like his first one, when drawn by modern artists. I sometimes I think that if they just changed the green parts to blue, it would look so much better.

I have no idea what the hell Bendis is doing with him in Avengers. Totally left-field.

My first exposure to Wonder Man was the Letterman issue of The Avengers. He punched out a steamroller in front of The World's Most Dangerous Band, while Paul Schaffer wore a Captain America t-shirt.

I will never understand why people in comics have ever thought green and red go together well on superhero costumes. I think when those are the only two colors on the costume, it looks terrible.

Second and Third from the Right are the best to me. I also dig the safari jacket.

Spoiler: show
I am under the impression he is a Wonder Man from some future timeline the way he was talking.

Is all this stuff happening in the Marvel 616 future, or in alternate timeline futures? Also, are all those characters that have been attacking the Avengers for three issues from the SAME future? How is any of this impacting the present time, except for our heroes being attacked?

I haven't cared for Wonder Man,The Vision,or the Scarlet Witch since they played Musical Partners.

From what I can tell, whatever is going on is affecting ALL the alternate timelines, so people from various timelines are attacking.

I think the new Avengers (just) title sucks hard. Secret Avengers for me.

I don't. I just hate red and green together. The only reason why Robin's outfit works for me is because of additional colors like yellow and blue/black.

This is the page from the comic where I first saw Wonder Man. He was called "Simon" for most of the story where he appeared and the narrator only mentioned casually that he occasionally called "Wonder Man." iirc

Wonder Man actually kinda reminds me of Captain Atom in a way. They both have about the same superhero status within their own respective universes.

But why? What's making them a target? I know Kang said they were responsible (somehow) for their kids in one timeline, but why would that affect the others? And if the Avengers can deal with their kids and fix things, what good is attacking them going to do?

Ranking them so far I'd go:

New Avengers
Secret Avengers
Avengers Academy
Avengers

New Avengers gets the edge over Secret Avengers for me because of the art.
