I liked all of the Herbie movies. Especially the one with Helen Hayes.

I have not seen the Lindsay Lohan version. There's a guy who lives around here who has his late model Beetle painted just like that film's Herbie, complete with the number 53.

Yeah, the old Herbie films make me smile. They're from a charming bygone era.

The New Beetle just doesn't make a good Herbie, imo...

(I haven't seen the Lohan movie either, but I can already tell you that I don't like the idea of animating his bumper and headlights to make a face.)

It makes me chuckle a bit when I see the guy driving down the road, but no, it doesn't. It actually kind of misses the point of Herbie, this unassuming, almost junk car that is sentient and one of the fastest of cars. It's too shiny and sporty looking to be a proper Herbie. And I didn't realize they animated the bumper and stuff. That's just dumb.

Hey, how many other "living cars" are out there in the world of popular fiction besides Herbie, Christine, Wonder Bug and Speed Buggy?

Never heard of that one. Had to do some research!

There was also a living car in the Twilight Zone episode "You Drive."

There was also KITT and KARR from "Knight Rider."

I wasn't even going to mention "Cars" because it doesn't take place in "our world." But the other two are good. Wasn't there a movie back in the 70's about a car that ran over people that wouldn't follow the protagonist onto holy ground?

Going to see a Herbie movie is one of my earliest memories of going to the movies at the theater. I don't know which one it was (or even if it was first run), but it would have been before 1973.

I saw "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" in the theater with my dad when it came out.

I don't think that car is supposed to be alive, T(Eddy). I think it just talks. :shush:

You're probably thinking about this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075809/

Never seen it, but I do vaguely remember when it came out.

And some people count this, although if you watch it it's clear the evil vehicle actually has a driver:

BTW, Nicole "Velma" Jaffe appears in a small and rare onscreen role in the original "Love Bug."

Freaked me out when it appeared on TV when I was little! I saw earthmovers in action quite a bit when I was little, coming from a family that was employed in construction. They were kind of scary to me anyway at that age.
