Simon Pegg teaming up with Tom Cruise again for 'Mission Impossible 4'

Simon Pegg is in talks to reprise his role as lab technician Benji Dunn for Mission: Impossible IIII. The film, helmed by The Incredibles and Ratatouille director Brad Bird in his first live action project, once again sees Tom Cruise leading the way as secret agent Ethan Hunt, reports Empire.

The plot is currently under wraps, but the film is being produced by Lost creator JJ Abrams, who produced Mission: Impossible III and also worked with Pegg on the 2009 remake of Star Trek.

Pegg will attend this year's comic convention, Comic-Con, (July 22-25) in San Diego to showcase his new film Paul, a comedy about two geeks who encounter an alien while travelling across the US to a comic convention.

Are they seriously going to denote the number 4 as "IIII?"

That's not just stupid, it's fucking stupid.

Cruise needs to jettison the action star role and keep doing character work. When he's Jerry Maguire, or the guy in Magnolia or the killer in Collateral, I invariably find myself mesmerized. But things like Knight and Day and these MI films just leave me cold.

Tom Cruise’s 'Mission: Impossible 4' salary slashed

Tom Cruise’s salary is to undergo a complete restructure for Mission: Impossible 4 after disappointing box office takings for his latest film Knight and Day. Insiders at Paramount have revealed that the studio has lost so much confidence in Cruise they have radically reduced his upfront fee.

According to Nymag.com, Cruise is said to have agreed to be paid "scale", the Screen Actors Guild minimum payment, by Paramount, who are currently getting the movie's budget together.

This means that Cruise will get nothing up front, and will only get paid after the film recoups its investment, said to be around £44 million.

In 2006 Mission: Impossible III made £252 million worldwide.

His latest box office outing Knight and Day has been dubbed a flop, grossing £47 million three weeks after its release in the US.

'Precious' star joins cast of 'Mission: Impossible' reboot

Paula Patton has landed the female lead in the fourth Mission Impossible film. The US star, who won accolades for her role in Precious, was screen-tested for the role of Tom Cruise's sidekick alongside actresses Kristin Kreuk and Lauren German, reports Deadline.com.

The actress will play an up-and-coming agent who gets to work alongside Cruise's long-standing character Ethan Hunt in the next installment of the spy franchise.

Patton, who is married to R&B crooner Robin Thicke, joins The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner who has recently been added to the cast.

However, the film will not be called Mission: Impossible 4 and, according to Cruise and the writer, Lost's JJ Abrams, it will be a franchise reboot.

Production will kick off in the autumn, with a December 2011 release date expected.

That's not just stupid, it's fucking stupid.

It's probably just the "reporter."

I hope the studio is that fucking stupid.

It's an archaic form.

The idea of subtracting as well as adding in Roman numerals (ie putting certain characters before others to make them lesser numbers, such as IV or XC, etc) was not originally part of the system.

Does anyWAN else think that rebooting the franchise with the same lead actor is ... strange?

The third one is as good as the first, if not better. IMO.

That is weird. Did they mean to say prequel?

I can understand why they'd reboot, though. You can see the filmmakers in the third one kind of trying to get back to making the film universe more like the TV show. This despite the first film kind of trashing the show's entire premise in favor of a straight up action-thriller.

:ohyes:

And it's not like the films are bogged down in continuity to begin with.
