From Anti-Music.com:
According to STYX's management the band was putting the finishing touches on their new album, Regeneration: Volume 1, back in June. Produced by Styx and their long-time studio/live sound engineer Gary Loizzo, Regeneration: Volume 1 contains six re-recorded versions of some of the band's classics and one brand new song, 'Difference In the World'. The six classic tracks are 'Grand Illusion', 'Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)', 'Lorelei', 'Sing For The Day', 'Crystal Ball' and 'Come Sail Away'.
Styx plan to release the album on vinyl as well as on CD and digitally.
The song 'Difference In The World' is now available for free download at this location.

So this is only 7 songs? That part is unclear. The point of this is also unclear aside from $$$ for licensing.

Re-recording without Dennis DeYoung? While I do like Tommy Shaw, no thanks,

Yuck. This would be like KISS re-recording a bunch of their old songs with-- Oh, crap...

It's about licensing I'm sure. I still have no interest in the least.

I wonder why they didn't re-record their #1 hit "Babe."

This CD should be titled Degeneration: Styx performs the music they used to perform with Dennis De Young.
Y'know, if David Gilmour and Roger Waters can reunite for a couple of one-off performances, why can't these guys?

They already did a lame re-recording of Lady, & that was with DeYoung!

Y'know, if David Gilmour and Roger Waters can reunite for a couple of one-off performances, why can't these guys? Because James Young hates him, and Tommy just wants to play music without politics. Dennis is also a bit of an agoraphobe, and will only do about 2-3 shows a week.

TS Garp wrote: This book explains why James has no time for Dennis. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1419653539/?tag=imwan-20That book was a damn good read. DDY is an egomaniac, but Shaw and Young are hotheads-a tough combo. The book is very enlightening and it's amazing they lasted as long as they did knowing what was going on. But this lineup of Styx simply rocks and I've always like Lawrence Gowan going back to his days as Gowan. It's been 11 years since DDY left so it's time to move on from that, though a reunion would be great. I saw the reunion tour and it was truly fantastic, but it's highly unlikely to happen. But, this idea of re-recordings is still lame.

I met & interviewed Styx as a college dj on the Grand Illusion tour.
That night, Shaw was very nice to me & the others were jerks.

That night, Shaw was very nice to me & the others were jerks. That's exactly the impression I got watching the VH1:BTM episode on Styx. Dennis wanted grand theatrics, JY wanted to piss off Dennis, and Tommy just wanted to play guitar.

Tommy smashed a guitar after a few bars of "Babe" each night with Damn Yankees-he's not exactly innocent.
