I am a huge Michael Mann fan - his writing, his directing style, his subject matter - they all resonate with me. I have been slowly tracking down and watching all of his work that I had not seen yet: early seasons of Miami Vice, Thief, Manhunter - all brilliant IMO.

My next purchase is his CRIME STORY tv series - any reviews? Anybody a fan?

I am also looking for the DRUG WARS CAMERENA STORY mini series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098782/

Anyone see this? impossible to find on DVD...any other sources where I can find this? Any reviews?

Any other Mann fans here...?

I'd also love to see "The Jericho Mile" finally released on DVD or Blu-ray. It's a terrific TV movie he directed with Peter Strauss and one of his earliest as a writer/director.

"Crime Story" was underrated and didn't reach the audience it richly deserved.

His film "Heat" was a remake of a TV movie (that he directed) with roughly the same material as its source.

Thanks Wayne - I just ordered (via Amazwan) the Crime Story S1 DVD.

The "original" version of Heat is on Youtube - the TV movie you were talking about - interesting to see lesser actors talk the same dialogue and how it does not have the same effect. Fun to compare/contrast.

Manhunter remains one of my all time favorite movies. I saw it in the 80s completely unaware of any aspect of the plot, so it was just mind blowingly awesome.

Mann is so good at staging action scenes, he's one of my fave modern directors.

Didn't he direct "Band of the Hand"? I think it disappeared from the theaters as fast as it got there.

CRIME STORY is a fantastic show. Just stellar on every level.

One of my all time favorites.

His action scenes are next level - amazing gunfight choreography that is exciting but not over the top.

Robert - is BAND OF THE HAND worth watching?

I have no idea. It's been so long since I may have watched it that I don't remember too much(if anything) about it...
