The World's Largest Ball of Sisal Twine
(Over 50 Years old and still growing.)
Cawker City, Kansas

Just how big is the ball of twine? Look at these figures:

17,980 pounds Almost 9 TON !!!
40 foot circumference
Over 7,827,737 feet of sisal twine
1,444 Miles

Frank Stoeber started this ball of twine on his farm in 1953. By 1957 it weighed 5,000 pounds, stood 8 feet high, and had 1,175,180 feet of twine on it. Stoeber gave the ball to Cawker City in 1961 before his death in 1974.

The Cawker City Community Club is the official owner/caretaker of the Ball of Twine. Each year a twine-a-thon is held in conjunction with the annual Cawker City picnic cook-off, and parade, so the ball never stops growing. The picnic and parade are on the third Saturday in August, with the twine winding being held the Friday before.

The ball of twine is located in "Downtown" Cawker City right along Wisconsin Street (Highway 24) on the south side of the highway. It is half a block west of Lake Drive, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding it (After all, this is a small town and a big ball of twine). While you are here, Take the Masterpiece Twine Walk at our fresh-air art gallery on the main street of Cawker City. Follow the TWINE painted along the sidewalks to see paintings displayed in store front windows and find the TWINE in each painting.

Passing through Cawker City? Stop by. Check out our Ball of Twine. Who knows? Maybe you'll be impressed.
Call or Email Linda Clover and she will have twine available, so you too can add to the size of the ball.

He's going to be sorry when that ball of twine attracts the world's largest cat.

Where in the world did he find two and a half tons of twine in only four years?

Hey, you're right! They kind of make him look like a piker. Of course, they do that to everybody!
