Here's an interesting story that you may have missed. In the "rough draft" for the Declaration
of Independence, there was one word blotted out over which Jefferson wrote "citizens." So
Tom wrote a typo---what's the big deal? Well, there were other mistakes on this paper, but those
words were just crossed out---not obliterated. Could there be something particular about that one
word that made Jefferson want to erase it completely?
The answer is yes, because the word was "subjects."
