The Kelvin, with it's weathering and specific lines, reminds me a lot of an old Russian submarine.

I know people with throw stuff. But, I like the 2009 movie. I like the ship and I like the overall movie. These are great shots of the Kelvin.

I don't believe you will have things thrown at you for liking the 2009 movie.

Unless you say the best part of the movie was the ridiculous use of the transporter.

Here's a great extended battle sequence featuring the two ships of the 2009 movie...

Fail for having sparks and shit streaming backward as if they were flying into a wind.

Well, since John Glenn saw sparks and shit when he was in Earth orbit I call FAIL ON YOU!

The 2009 Star Trek movie was good, so I won't be throwing anything at you...

There are winds in space.

These sparks were streaming opposite the direction of the ship's motion, as if the wind in question was being generated by the passage of the ship through an atmosphere.

So maybe that's the way the wind was blowing.

In one instance, the smoke and sparks were blowing at right angles to the source of illumination (the nearby star); at another point the smoke and sparks were blowing parallel to the direction of illumination. So, no, this motion (streaming backwards opposite the ship's motion) is not caused by some prevailing interplanetary wind (which would be very tenuous anyway, and not likely to be the cause of this).

Bah! Space isn't a complete vacuum. Personally, real outer space is boring. I much prefer Hollywood outer space.

True. Interplanetary space typically has 5-10 protons per cubic centimeter. Far to little to make cause the effects shown.

Ah... Well you should have just said that to begin with.

Nope. I haven't been to South Pole, either, but I'm pretty confident that I can tell you what the conditions are like there.

Oh... Or did you mean Hollywood Space?

Darin...he's literally a rocket scientist. I think you're out of your league arguing with him about this.

Well, no, I'm not a rocket scientist. I play with rockets for fun. My Ph.D. is in Astrophysics. But I only got a diploma for that, not a plaque.

Of course you can, people have been there. What about deep space though?

I wouldn't trust people who have been to the South Pole to give me accurate estimates of the temperature and pressure, etc. But I would accept the data from their instruments as being accurate.

Similarly, I accept the data from our deep space probes. I know people that build the equipment and that work on interpreting the data.
