Our air conditioner problems at the library continue. Today is the worst day yet. Temperatures in the 90s, and the chiller has basically not worked all day long. I'm sitting in an office with no windows and no fans (they're all in the public areas). And we have a large group meeting in our community room. :ohno: :sigh:

The only thing that keeps me from despair is a phone call a few minutes ago from the service company in Little Rock. The new compressor they ordered last week just came in, and they will be bringing it down first thing tomorrow. Meanwhile we've got over four hours til closing time this evening. Maybe we'll get a thundershower.

The thundershower is happening right now!

Unfortunately we don't have just a whole lot of books on Antarctica. Maybe pulling out those two books about Schackleton's expedition would help.

A big block of dry ice and lots of cool iced tea might help the mood.

thunderstorms — one of the few things I miss from the Midwest

you're in Arkansas, right? some unusual folks down there. I love the Ozarks, especially in the autumn, but you can get some really strange vibes if you get too far off the beaten path, at least in the northern part of the state

Today my sister and niece are spending the night at my place during their visit from Spain, so I am splurging and have had the central a/c on all day. I know I will cringe when I see the bill but the 89 degree weather is not an inviting alternative.

I've seen unusual folks pretty much everywhere in this state. Comes with the territory to some extent, I guess. My brother said that when Arkansans meet each other in the Army they usually recognize each other even before anyone has said where they're from. Something about the speech patterns, I guess.

could be the razorback tattoo

i've even seen Arkansan families at rest stops on various travels in neighboring states, and even before checking the license plate, more than once i've correctly guessed they're from your unique state; so my theorem goes beyond the arkansas drawl and into some undefined or unconscious profiling realm

It has been over 90 for a record 18 days here in Charlotte. Most of the days are 95 and above. Tomorrow, it is supposed to drop into the mid 80s.

The new compressor was installed yesterday. It took about ten hours, part of it in the rain. I felt so sorry for the technician! And he had a long drive to get here and back too.

This morning I came in to work and the building felt COOL! :yay: :yay: :yay:
