One of my new year's goals is to get back to spending time with my creative side. In addition to adding more drawings to my thread that David created months back, I hope to be writing more poetry as well. Perhaps starting this thread will spur me on. :) Anyway, I only have a couple of pieces so far, which were obviously written during this past Halloween season...major fan of the holiday, here.

Some of you have already read this one, it's a tribute to my favorite movie icons:

Nightmare

I cannot fight the torture of sleep any longer
The demons who want me here are so much stronger
My host, in red and brown stripe, waits under a stormy sky
Merciless enjoyment lighting his murderous, ravaged eyes

Please

Heart furiously pounding, my eyes dart in his sharp claw's direction
Blood drains from my face over the murky water's reflection
Masked and steady, a shiny long machete by his side
From the lakeshore he comes for me, with self-assured strides

Don't

Thick woods blanketed by silver moonlight are my only choice
But the flight for my life is cut short by a gravelly voice
Hiding, I listen- his glutteral sounds of frustration are near
Frustration that turns to laughter as his chainsaw's spark rages clear

Hurt

Blindly panicked, with burning lungs, I race for my salvation
Toward anything that will save me from my mind's creation
And suddenly he steps before me- the biggest reason to be afraid
With a ghostly white face, his grip tightens around his butcher's blade

Me

Gasping for air, I bolt upright in the sweat-soaked bed
Terrorized by all the frenzy just inside my own head
Please God, help me--because for all my mind has just seen,
Do I dare face what is patiently waiting for me this Halloween?

And who can write Halloween poetry without one about Dracula??

Darkness swallows the land
My senses erupt into fire
For thirteen nights he has come to me
Silent intensity building our desire

Always appearing from thin air
He is the perfect vision at my door
My dark lord confidently awaits
Invitation to cross my bedroom floor

His strong, graceful frame towers mine
Chiseled features, hair the shade of coal
Flowing black cape lined in crimson
Piercing eyes see every corner of my soul

Tonight I will resist him no longer
He has forever known I belong to him
Slowly he closes the distance between us
Using the tenderest touch, he lifts my chin

Acceptance is sealed with a fevered kiss
As I bare my neck for the unknown
His fangs pierce my goosebumped flesh
A world of beauty I am shown

Soft moans prove his intoxication
His skin is heated with pleasure
Tears of joy spill down my cheeks
Over this powerful new love to treasure

(Yeah, I'm not really infatuated with him, but he is some very cool fiction, no doubt )

It's sick! (In California, that's better than cool)

One of the best thing fiction does is encourage our participation, that's for sure.

I'm serious this time, dammit...about to pull an exit stage-left from the internet for several weeks to put into prose some more ideas rumbling around in my head-draw some more characters...yeah, that's the stuff.

Sounds cool! I come back to the Internet about once or twice a week now and just pop in for quick visits, see how some folks are doing, and then try to stay locked into my little world.

Well, I'm proud of you for not letting go of the muse. At least you still get her text, right? :-D The muse has lost a lot of people's numbers cause they never "called her back" LOL

Heck, I don't have twins and I don't even do as much as I wish to do...but I love every minute of it, even the part where you can't figure out what to do next. though I love that in a more relative way!
