Depp would be great and one of the few actors that could follow Ledger's Joker performance.

I think I could get behind JGL if Riddler could be made sufficiently sinister for the Nolan Batman.

The Eddie Murphy is a joke, although whether on the writer of the piece or the readers I don't know. He was rumored to be in the running for another Bat-villain role (maybe even the Riddler, I don't remember) in the last Batman movie series.

That makes sense.

Gordon-Levitt seems on the young side to me, but if he's who Nolan ends up going with, I'll trust his instincts.

Eddie Murphy has an Oscar nomination under his belt, so it may not be the joke that it was in the early 90's. He's no Heath Ledger, but he's shown that he can do drama when needed.

But it may just be the old rumor popping up again.

Did they mention a Wayans in the running for Robin?

I still say reinventing the Riddler as a Se7en-esque serial killer is the route to take for those films.

Not grim and gritty enough. Throw in some cannibalism and you're set to go.

I like the idea of not even showing the guy for most of the movie and having him carry out some twisted crimes as part of a game he is playing with Bats.

I was hoping for Catwoman. JGL is a great actor but is kind of on the young side. I trust Nolan though. I still think Hugo Strange would be a great way to go as his genetic experiments could include Croc if they wanted to get slightly more fantastical with the villains. Man-Bat, even.

I can't remember if I've mentioned on IMWAN before or not, but I personally would love to see the Phantasm from the animated movie adapted for live-action in the final Nolan film. It would have to be a different character inside the suit, but if they could pull the costume off, I think the visual look would be fantastic.

If the Phantasm even had the same m.o. as in MOTP---killing off bad guys---it would even offer a potential solution to the status quo left over at the end of The Dark Knight, even if it would ultimately be replacing one lie with another one.

Yeah, the only thing with The Riddler is that it's another character with no hand to hand fighting skills.

I'd rather not go with the Riddler anyway as he's really just a poor man's Joker---I'd rather go with Deadshot and maybe Bane. A sniper and a steroid freak would fit in Nolan's vision pretty nicely, I think.

I could get behind that. The Deadshot segment of the Gotham Knight DVD was by far my favorite.

The Riddler works if you think about the real-life Riddler-- the Zodiac Killer. Imagine a fucked up serial killer along those lines and you have your guy.

That History Channel special that came on around the same time The Dark Knight opened made the same comparison---equating several Batman villains with their real-life equivalents. The Riddler-Zodiac connection was made, but unfortunately I can't remember any of the others.

He really was like the Riddler, though. I wonder if he got the idea from Batman comics or the TV show.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Excellent segment and would fit into the Nolan realism really well, I think.

That IS a good point, yeah, I could see that, definitely.

I preferred the Riddler when he was leaving clues to his upcoming thefts and only attempted to kill through the booby-trapped riddles that he left for Batman & Robin.

Me too. Serial killer and Riddler don't mesh.

Right, because the way to follow up the Joker in TDK is with wacky hijinks and horseplay.
