The world desperately needs another Elvis Costello anthology.
Almost as much as a re-re-re-re-issue of his catalog
Still waiting for the re-luxe de-issue of Armed Forces... Costello and Universal are starting projects but not finishing them...
Hey...he just about finished the excellent and IMO superior Rhino reissues! Then they went out of print as he switched labels. Glad I own them all. Universal can keep their product.

The track listing for what it's worth (this has also been moved up to June 29):
1. Bedlam 2. Stella Hurt 3. No Hiding Place 4. This House Is Empty Now 5. Impatience 6. Tart 7. The Sweetest Punch 8. My Mood Swings 9. When I Was Cruel No. 2 10. Ascension Day 11. Dust 12. Country Darkness 13. 45 14. In The Darkest Place 15. The River In Reverse 16. Monkey To Man 17. In Another Room 18. Still
Pomp & Pout - The Universal Years, is the first ever collection of Elvis Costello's material from the years of 1998-2008, and provides a sonic bookend to the successful compilation The Best Of Elvis Costello - The First 10 Years (Hip-O). Pomp & Pout was compiled by Mr. Costello and features b-sides,rarities and work from soundtracks along side other album highlights.

I might get this used eventually......already have all of the Universal albums, and most of the CD singles surrounding WIWC and TDM....so I'm only really missing My Mood Swings and anything else that might just have been on movie soundtracks.
Not that thereare any real hi songs from this recent perod, but I'm surprised Tear Off Your Own Head (It's A Doll Revolution), There's a Story in Your Voice, and American Gangster Time aren't on here. These were all on the radio a fair amount.

What is the purpose of this? Seriously? Why release ANOTHER compilation by EC even if it is the "Universal Years"? There's other stuff that really needs to be reissued from Universal's massive archive of material that would probably sell as well.

If this era has not been compiled, it's not "another" compilation as if it were the same recycled songs. It's not. Here's an obscure fact, most people don't own every album and every oddity, so these collections are very relevent. Jesus, it's not like the Who, Elvis or the Beach Boys

This comp covers the most recent era, which makes it relevant. I guess if someone did not look at the track list, they could say that it's been comped to death.
I can think of many comps that do not sell many copies, especially in 2010, but I guess some here refuse to look at reality, which includes a lot of casual fans instead of forum bubbles and their greatest hits nazis.

I realize that some of these HAVEN'T appeared on a dedicated EC compilation but I'd rather that Universal and EC spent their time putting out the concert discs that they started awhile back. I like a lot of EC fans have become burned out by compilations with one or two tracks (like the Warner one that was released before he moved his catalog to Rhino and then Universal) that haven't been collected before only to be repurposed a couple of years later to a deluxe edition reissue of one of his albums.
Put the compilation online so the casual fan can download them (heck, they could create their own compilation online rather than buy this).
Elvis Has Left the Building: Costello’s “Pomp and Pout” Postponed (Again!)
Back on June 8, The Second Disc apprised its readers of a new collection being prepped by Elvis Costello for release on the Hip-o label. Entitled Pomp and Pout, it would be the first compilation of Costello’s Universal recordings, drawing on 10 years and 18 tracks.
Originally scheduled for July 13 release, it was postponed to later in July, and then to late in August. Now, with the August 24 release date approaching, it appears that Pomp and Pout has either been postponed, or pulled altogether, as it’s disappeared from retailers’ active order links.
It’s a possibility that this may have to do with the imminent release of Costello’s latest studio offering, National Ransom, which is due from Hear Music/Concord on October 25 internationally and November 2 domestically. Costello may have asked for the compilation to be removed from the release schedule so as not to compete with the new studio album. Ransom is produced by Costello’s fellow Coward Brother and longtime collaborator T-Bone Burnett, and features members of both the Imposters and the Sugarcanes, along with Marc Ribot, Leon Russell, Vince Gill and Buddy Miller.
