Amazon.co.uk Review
With Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities, ace label Kent, in the shape of the ever-reliable Ady Croasdell, have compiled a scorching selection of 24 mostly recent northern soul discoveries. The inclusion of Audrey Matthews' simply sublime "I have No Choice" is especially timely, as current plays from newly cut acetates have generated a rapturous reception throughout the scene. Elsewhere, Dan Folger's regret-etched beat ballad, "The Way of the Crowd; the legendary cover-up, "What Happened to Yesterday", by Mr Soul; and the Delfonics falsetto festooned, "You'll Get Enough", top many a "wanted list". However, there is one track that makes this compilation absolutely essential--jazz diva Karmello Brooks' potently crooned "Tell Me Baby". Originally issued on jazz label Milestone in 1966, this self-penned fully orchestrated up-tempo slice of soul alchemy was actually the flip-side. --Chris D King

Product Description
Calling this compilation essential is, to say the least, an understatement and it’s certainly set to garner the critical and commercial acclaim accorded to the previous best-selling volume.

In addition to super rarities from The Extremes, Don & Ron, Ty Karim and Eddie Campbell (from Eddie & Ernie), we have current monsters from Bill Bush, Joe Tex and Athens Rogue.

The pièce de résistance is The Magicians ‘(Just A Little) Faith And Understanding’, which is the major Northern discovery of the decade; a fantastic vocal to a legendary instrumental that has always been crying out for those vocal arrangements!

Also includes a lavish booklet in the finest Kent tradition, positively bursting with copious label reproductions, memorabilia, and of course Ady’s entertaining and supremely informative notes.

It all adds up to a glorious package featuring an unparalleled selection of collectors’ soul sounds, super rarities, classy curios and an unissued legend. Enjoy!

Product Description
It's the first time on CD for most of these elusive rarities - several of which only exist as 45s in single figure quantities. The incredible story of the rarest UK-pressed vinyl soul single is revealed at last.

Current monsters include Rudy Love & Co's tough `Suffering Wrath', Jesse Davis' instrumental take on Sherlie Matthews' classic stomper `Hang On In There', the Tiaras' `Loves Made A Connection' and flavour of the year Darrow Fletcher with his Detroit-produced monster `What Good Am I'.

Super-rarities `Love Slave' by the Antellects, Wendell Watts' `Kiss A Good Thing Goodbye', Jesse James' `Are You Gonna Leave', Jesse Davis' `There's No Room For Me' and the Inconquerables' `Wait For Me' all fetch a thousand or thousands of pounds when they very occasionally come up for sale.

Salt & Pepper's late 60s funk masterpiece was only ever on sale in Bangkok, where the US GIs were stationed - there's a fascinating story about this in the sleevenotes.

The UK's favourite Detroit soul singer Melvin Davis has licensed us his early Ke Ke recording, made with Dave Hamilton on a shoestring but with a great result.

Miles Grayson's artist Eleanor Rigby gives a terrific alternate take on Brenda George's `I Can't Stand It'. There are more funk flavours on a few tracks, reflecting the recent shift on the Northern scene: check out Bobbie Dee and Lord Luther.

Northern staples from Troy Dodds, Brenton Wood, Jerry Ganey and the Hytones give the CD some recognisable quality among the relatively unknown titles that are going to be enjoyed for the first time by many collectors.

24 varying but excellent soul sounds for dancers and connoisseurs everywhere.

1. Hook Line And Sinker - Dan Greer
2. What Good Am I Without You - Darrow Fletcher
3. My Mistake - Lord Luther
4. Are You Gonna Leave Me - Jesse James
5. A Dream - Creations
6. I've Been Done Wrong - Jimmy Holiday
7. It's No News - Melvin Davis
8. There's No Room For Me - Jesse Davis
9. Hang On In There - Jesse Davis Band
10. Diamonds, Rubies, Gold And Fame - The Gypsies
11. I Don't Love You - Bobbie Dee
12. Black Mother Goose - Sam Nesbitt
13. Kiss A Good Thing Goodbye - Wendell Watts
14. Love Slave - The Antellects
15. Deeper - The Cheques
16. Wait For Me - The Inconquerables
17. Try My Love - Troy Dodds
18. Just A Fool - Jerry Ganey
19. You Don't Even Know My Name - The Hytones
20. Cross The Bridge - Brenton Wood
21. Love's Made A Connection - The Tiaras
22. Suffering Wrath - Rudy Love & Co
23. A Man Of My Word - Salt & Pepper
24. Queen Of Losers - Eleanor Rigby
