Stumbled on this today at 'Rama. OK, I never heard of them, but slap a sticker on the cover proclaiming them as "One of the 80s most overlooked bands" and a cross between "KISS and the Monkees" and I'm gonna bite! Can't find much info via Google, but the liner notes are full of posters showing them opening for Meat Puppets, Redd Kross, Replacements, and Alex Chilton. The CD compiles some indie releases that never got much distribution outside of the south, apparently. Their one LP was produced by Tommy Keene, no less. Hard-edged power pop, I think Linda will like this (if she doesn't know them already!)

The official release date isn't until July, but I'm happy to jump in to praise this collection. Carnival Season was one of the best rock bands of the '80s, and could've been a lot bigger if they hadn't been based in Birmingham, Alabama. They were still great enough to get heard, and shouldn't be forgotten again. They were contemporaries with Primitons, for those who might remember the Birmingham scene...and the same record label that put out MISGUIDED PROMISE (that being Arena Rock Recording Co.) is set to do a Primitons comp by early next year.
