Plus, this was a record breaking scorcher hot muggy day, so many people were driving with their windows open. The cops were screaming for people to roll them up, roll them up! It was a real mess.
Plus, in that heat, the first responders had to put on heavy protective gear to avoid being overly stung. I can't say enough good things about their willingness to handle emergencies like this.

Glad it looks like they contained them before more people were seriously injured. There was a Civil War skirmish in Arkansas known as "The Battle of the Bees". Supposedly the Confederates were forced to retreat after they were attacked by a swarm of bees. But it's probably just a legend. http://www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net/e ... tryID=4442

It never occurred to me that they might have been thinking about the Battle of the Bees when they wrote that scene!
