They killed the Sentry? How?

Thor killed him in the last issue of Siege.

Edited to add: I'm not putting spoilers on any of this because it's already been out there for a while on sites like Wikipedia and Newsarama.

Sentry was a waste of space anyway, the only time I read him was the Jenkins/Romita Jr. mini.

After reading Wiki, isn't it possible that the sun would revive him since his power is that of a million suns or some bullshit?

There was some secret message he left for Reed or something, too.

And he was a Marvelman pastiche, not Superman.

I feel that now that Thor is back, there wasn't much "need" for the Sentry in the Avengers or in Marvel's line-up. As far as him being Marvel's Superman pastiche, I always like Gladiator far better... both visually and powers-wise. I think Gladiator has a lot of cool potential and wouldn't mind seeing a good writer/editor put him in the Avengers in the absence of Thor or Hercules... y'know, give him a chance to ascend from being Marvel's whipping boy suffering from Worfism (a term my girlfriend uses to describe a character who is said to be tough, but always loses right away to establish how dangerous the threat is... kind of like how they used Worf on TNG or Superman in the first season of Justice League).

He could stand to get a name change, though. That's not unheard of over in the MU.

Marvelman is a pastiche of Captain Marvel, who is a knock-off of Superman.

So, come on.

I don't want to argue. Sentry was routinely criticized as "Marvel's Superman" and that's where I'm coming from... regardless of how much he actually resembles some other character(s).

How cute. It's as if you're inside each other's minds.

But back to my point, Superman and Marvelman are different enough character to have different types of pastiches. We don't call Midnighter a Zorro pastiche, after all.

And yes, I'm well aware Sentry was usually referred as "Marvel's Superman" The ignorance annoyed the heck out of me. Gladiator is a Superman pastiche. Sentry is not.

Anyway, I think in Marvel tradition it would cool if Gladiator joined the Avengers and took the name "Sentry." Or "Power Man" or some other name not being used right now over there in that universe.

Cripes, you're out of your gord on this one.

Guy who flies, has super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, has a cape, has a "S" logo and isn't Superman = Superman pastiche

If they could find a way for Gladiator not to suck, it would be cool.

I always liked Gladiator as well. Have his appearances in Annihilation and the other recent Marvel cosmic titles been any good?

Gladiator's appearance in the War of Kings mini (Marvel cosmic event) was great... and drawn by Paul Pelletier, so that's a plus. He was a pretty central character in that mini and with the death of
Spoiler: show
Lillandra (sp), he is now head of the Sh'iar
.

I've always liked the character from FF #249 onwards.
