On his messageboard, Brian K. Vaughn has posted an update of what's going to be keeping him busy in the coming months:
Sorry I've been so coy about these rumors, but I always like to wait until the contracts have been signed and the "first trimester" has been survived until I talk about stuff.
But yes, inexplicably, I've been hired as an Executive Story Editor by the fantastic television show LOST. As I'm neither an executive nor an editor, this is really just a fancy Hollywood way of saying that I've joined the writing staff.
I can't talk about much more than that, so I implore you to please stop asking me what the island is, who the Others are, how Matthew Fox smells, etc. Still, I will say that I'm insanely honored to join such an amazing group of writers (some of their new scripts I've been lucky enough to read are destined to become the best episodes of the series), and I'm very grateful to Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for having so much faith in me.
And no, I'm absolutely not leaving comics. There are a lot of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina fans at the show, so everyone has been great about leaving me just enough time to work on those books, and even some new ones, including an upcoming four-issue stint on that Runaways guy Joss Whedon's "eighth season" of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER over at Dark Horse. Stay tuned for news on the all-important creator-owned front, as well.
I've learned more about the creative process in two weeks inside the Lost writers' room than I did in four (very rewarding) years at NYU's film school, so hopefully, this new challenge will push me to become a stronger writer and help my work to evolve.
Mostly, I just don't want to screw up a show that I love.
The addition of Vaughan to staff follows the show's track record of pulling staff from comics, as creators such as Jeph Loeb and Paul Dini have also worked on the ABC series. Likewise, the show has spawned its own comic writers, such as Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Damon Lindelof.

Hopefully this puts us one step closer to seeing a "Y - The Last Man" series on HBO at some point.

Interesting eh? BKV is the man and I hope he manages to balance his time between TV and comics.
Mark Millar predicted that Hollywood will poach many many comic book writers and artists over the next 2 years and a lot of favorites will dissapear only to be replaced by new faces...he may be right..quick list off the top of my head:
- Jeph Loeb on Heroes (still write a lot of comics though)
- Warren Ellis has 2 pilots written (commissioned by AMC)
- John Cassaday will direct I AM LEGION next year
- Frank Miller will direct the SPIRIT and SIN CITY 2
- Geoff Johns is doing a movie with the guys from ROBOT CHICKEN
- Bendis has written screenplays in development (JINX)
- Millar is working on screenplays (WANTED, some secret stuff)
- James Robinson dissapeared for years to work in Hollywood (league of Gentlemen)
Will we lose our fan faves to Hollywood? Hollywood wins again!!

While I could be wrong, my understanding is that this is already being developed as a movie, and that BKV has already turned in a script.
Anyway, good for him, if it's a step he wanted to take. Talented guy with good ideas, good writing chops and a pretty flexible set of skills.
That, and more room for the next guy.

BKV responds to Millar (funny stuff):
QUOTE(Mark Millar @ Dec 20 2006, 08:07 PM)
Oh, this is just the tip of the iceberg, my friends. You ain't heard nothing yet.
THE HARVEST IS COMING!!!
Just you wait.
Happy New year,
Nostradamus (Mark Millar)
**** (BKV responds):
Relax, old-timer. I wrote more comics scripts while working for Lost over the last two weeks than your sickly ass wrote all year. What I lack in hair, I make up for with dedication (and handsomeness). I have ten jobs, and I'll still write twice as many comics as Mark in 2007, and that's a GUARANTEE, MillarWorlders!
Thanks for the kind words,
BKV

As a LOST fan and a BKV fan, I take this as good news.

I wish BKV could do some more work along the lines of the recent Escapists mini.

Why not?

I know most of his new stuff in 2007 will be original creator owned concepts..so im eager to see what he has in store for us.

The beauty of BKV is that its all fresh, unique, genuine and high quality. He's not catering to anyone, he just does what he does and it works.
That said, I'm not a fan of LOST but now I guess I have to be?
Also, Y would work much better as a TV series on HBO than a movie, but BKV has mentioned previously that the movie is being developed.
