No release date yet, but just read in Rolling Stone that 30th anniversary Deluxe Editions of Blizzard Of Ozz & Diary Of A Madman are in the works. No word on what bonus tracks or additional material will be included, but Sharon has finally gotten her head of out of her ass and the ORIGINAL MIXES WILL BE RESTORED.

About frickin' time!

And here I was saying that I'd never buy these albums again!!

They'll be coming out on May 31st. -- Linda

I'm wondering if they'll unearth some previously unreleased studio recordings or live tracks. Maybe some live tracks featuring Daisley & Kerslake??

There's some real good sounding live tracks from both tours-I have several soundboard and FM boots, including Ozzy's first ever solo show in the fall of 1980 w/ the Rhoads/Dailsey/Kerslake/Bridgewater lineup. Great stuff.
There's a lot of FM broadcasts from the Diary tour, but with the Tribute album I'm not sure there's any point there.
The 1980 b-side "You Looking At Me, Looking At You" and "You Said It All" from the Mr. Crowley Live EP should be included.
Hell, the whole Mr. Crowley EP should be included (I still have my vinyl Picture Disc!).
This is exciting news, and I never supported those previous abominations. Maybe they can re-releases the Prince Of Darkness box and get those shit versions off as well.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but if this comes to pass, it will be a very good thing. I'm hoping for the tracks from the Mr. Crowley EP, the live version of "I Don't Know" that was a B side, "You Looking At Me, Looking At You". Hopefully some more live stuff - even with Tribute, Randy changed some stuff so it's worth it. Plus, Tribute didn't have "Over The Mountain".

There's talk that some pro-shot video w/Randy popped up earlier this year, and Ozzy said it was due to be released this year, so perhaps it will be included with this.

From what I understand, though, there's not much in the area of extra studio stuff, although Daisley reportedly has some rehearsal/jam/songwriting tapes that he was negotiating to use in the documentary about Randy, but those negotiations went south.

Edited to add: I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a remixed version, but only if it had the original bass and drum parts. And if the originals were still included.

I'm going to want to hear these before any purchase. The first remasters with the original tracks are at least tolerable sounding, & with the current trend to compress everything to death (ESPECIALLY HARD ROCK), these may actually be a down grade. Keep our fingers crossed...........

I have a feeling that if these are successful enough, we may see restored versions of Speak Of The Devil, Bark At The Moon (original mix) and The Ultimate Sin. And possibly, The Ozzman Cometh and Prince Of Darkness with the original mixes reinstated as well, like IP said.

I think this will be it if these really surface. Ozzy despises The Ultimate Sin (along with me!) and Speak Of The Devil (I like that), but you never know. I'd really say that would be doubtful.
And I think the last remasters were fine, no need to go back there.
I think this is really to fix the atrocities of the Blizzard and Diary remasters which no self-respecting fan should ever have supported!

I have to kind of lean Chris's way on this - I wouldn't be surprised to see re-releases of "The Ultimate Sin" and "Speak Of The Devil". Ozzy may despise them, but Sharon loves money. If they can capitalize on a surge of interest around Ozzy (especially if the Ozzy movie truly comes to be), then I would be surprised to see stickers that say "FINALLY! The long-unavailable Ozzy series..."

Most interesting...though given the track record of the principles I am certainly not going to hold my breath. :)

IP, Ironically we're in complete disagreement on these 2, but since you got me into Thin Lizzy we now have at least a couple things in common! :yay: :)

I do love both these albums so they certainly will go on the list.

Maybe now I can have a legit version of the original B-sides. Thanks to an ICEr who I won't name, I have the originals on a cool rarities collection.

Hey, we can always disagree and still rock and/or roll. So glad you enjoy Lizzy and you need to hear so much more of them!
I am surprised you like Ultimate Sin, but I'll tell you what. If that did get a remastering this go around (I still doubt that highly), I'd give it another shot. I did like 3 songs-"Shot In The Dark", "The Ultimate Sin" and "Killer Of Giants". But the rest was poo, and like Ozz, I hated the Ron Nevison coked-up booming 80's production.
But Jake E. Lee was the real deal and Badlands was more an example of his true rootsy style.

I haven't spent much time with Lee's solo material, but I really liked him with Ozzy. I'm not so fond of Wylde; I don't own any of the Ozzy/Wylde cd's.

That squealing thing that Zakk Wylde overdoes bugs the hell out of me. I always preferred Jake E. Lee.

Jake E. Lee had the unenviable task of having to follow Randy Rhoads. I know that Bernie Torme and Brad Gillis were the immediate replacments for Randy, but neither were full-time and neither did any studio recordings with Ozz.

I just never saw the point of speak; covering Black Sabbath with Brad Gillis on guitar. I might have felt different if Rhodes had still been alive.

Ozzy did that live album for two reasons:

(1) Black Sabbath had announced they were going to release a live album (Live Evil) and Ozzy wanted to counter-punch them. He also beat them to the record stores by a couple of months.

(2) Also, because he owed his record label a live album and didn't want to give them one with Randy Rhoads. By doing Speak Of The Devil, he fulfilled his contract and was free and clear of any further obligation to Jet Records and Don Arden, who he and Sharon (Don's daughter) detested.

I'd forgotten about Live/Evil. Never liked that one either. I'm in the minority, I've never liked anything Dio did other then early Rainbow. I kinda do like the Ian Gillan version of Sabbath, though more live then studio.
