Shia LaBeouf: 'I wasn't impressed with 'Transformers 2''

Shia LaBeouf has criticised the blockbuster Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen that he appeared in, saying he "wasn't impressed" with the film and that it was just "just a bunch of robots fighting each other". LaBeouf was speaking at Cannes where he is promoting his new film, the Wall Street sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen was a critical flop but still took $836m at the worldwide box office – over $100m more than the first Transformers movie.

He promised, however, that the third in the series – due for release next summer – will be an improvement. The Transformers franchise stars LaBeouf and Megan Fox and features shape-shifting alien robots fighting their battles on earth.

“When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," he said. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone... we got lost. We tried to get bigger. Mike [director Michael Bay] went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie."

He added: “You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it’s just a bunch of robots fighting each other.”

Of Transformers 3, he added: “There's going to be a lot of death, human death” as “this time they're targeting humans”.

Yet for those worried about a possible lack of robot-crunching action, LaBeouf added it would also be “the craziest action movie ever made”.

Thank goodness. Lots of death. Human death.

Because otherwise, there's no heart in the movie.

What?

There were humans in the first one?

Personally, that's why I liked the sequel more, as it focused on the robot fighting more than the half-ass relationship stuff in the first.

Wow...I'm so there. Megan Fox and human death. I await with my $13 patiently in my hand.

I do remember going to Transformers 2 eager for more of the subtlety, depth and insight into the human condition that had characterized Transformers 1.

Instead, Transformers 2 was just a mindless action movie -- nothing at all like the first film. I remember feeling disoriented: Had I walked into the wrong theater by mistake? What was with all these robots hitting each other?, I asked myself. I couldn't believe that Michael Bay had directed the second one; it was like he had forgotten what made his movies work. Where was the auteur who had so lovingly crafted the achingly heartfelt "Armageddon" and love-poem-on-film that was "The Island"?

It was such a betrayal. I pray that Transformers 2 was just a temporary lapse from which Bay has already recovered; the single blot in an otherwise flawless and peerless filmography.

As was the first film, as will be the next film.

Yeah, the first thing I look for in a Transformers movie is "heart."

Megan Fox upset as topless pictures leak from set

Transformers star Megan Fox has reacted furiously to naked pictures of her taken on a cameraphone being leaked onto the internet. Speaking to Allure magazine, she promised to inflict "physical harm" on the person responsible for taking a picture of her on the set of her new film Passion Play, where she appears naked in a glass box as a circus sideshow performer.

She said: "If I knew who took this picture, I would personally cause them harm – physical harm... I’m not a fucking reality TV star that’s courting the paparazzi and wants my fucking picture taken all the time."

She added: "I'm at my job and I’m trying to play a character and I’m trying to be serious, and this is the shit that’s happening to me. It makes me furious."

Meanwhile, following the announcement of her departure, Fox has insisted that it was her decision to leave the Transformers franchise.

It led to speculation that the 24-year-old had been dumped by director Michael Bay, after she compared him to Hitler, and complained that the action films were "not about acting".

Yet a representative of Fox has said: "Megan Fox will not be starring in Transformers 3. It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best."

Crew members on Transformers 2 took the unusual step last year of publishing a letter online criticising the actress, branding her "dumb-as-a-rock", "sour", a "thankless, classless, graceless, unfriendly bitch", and wishing that a Megatron would "squish her character in the first ten minutes of Transformers 3".

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to replace Megan Fox in 'Transformers 3'?

British Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will take over from Megan Fox in the third film of action franchise Transformers, according to reports. Previous rumours had linked British actress Gemma Arterton – currently starring in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time alongside Jake Gyllenhaal – with the role of Mikaela Banes.

However it wouldn't be the first time Transformers director Michael Bay has plucked a young hopeful from nowhere, with Fox herself a relative unknown when she was cast in the first film in 2007 – a role that shot to international fame.

Fox quit the third film last week, with tabloid reports claiming it was down to a row she had with director Bay over her weight loss.

Huntington-Whiteley, who is 23 and dating actor Jason Statham, has no previous acting experience.

Shia LaBeouf – who plays Sam Witwicky in the movies – has promised the third film will mark an improvement, after admitting that he hated the 2009 sequel, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.

He said: "There are a lot of people that liked the second one, but I hated it. I just didn't enjoy it. I thought we missed the mark. I got confused, I couldn't see what the fuck was going on, you know with certain robots... I couldn't decipher what was happening.

"I know that Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are dedicated to making the best movie we possibly can, and we're not going to miss next time."

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley confirmed to star in 'Transformers 3'

Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will star in Transformers 3 - despite never acting before. The underwear company have made a video congratulating her on being Megan Fox's replacement as female lead in the movie, which you can watch below.

The model was apparently up against the likes of Gemma Arterton, Ashley Green and Zoe Salanda for the role.

Director Michael Bay worked with Huntington-Whiteley when he made an advert for Victoria's Secret.

A new female lead was needed after Megan Fox left the project having appeared in the first two films.

Transformers 3 is due out in summer 2011.

'Transformers 3' will be in 3D

The next instalment of the Transformers franchise will be released in 3D. Director Michael Bay had previously dismissed 3D as "a gimmick", and claimed “the way I shoot is far too aggressive for 3D cameras” - but appears to have changed his mind, following the new filmmaking technique's success.

Bay also revealed some plot details for the third instalment of the Transformers franchise, which includes a suggestion that the 1957 to 1975 space race between Russia and the US was influenced by giant robots.

The storyline will also involve less comedy and more drama involving Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBoeuf) transition from boy to man.

Megan Fox, who played Mikaela in the first two films, has been replaced as LaBoeuf’s love interest by Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

I saw Transformers 2 and was surprised that I liked it. I don't watch a lot of movies even though there are tons of places on the Net where you can watch them. I thought T2 was alright. I would probably watch the 3rd one as well. :ohyes:

You'd think I'd be all over this thread.

Nah.

The Transformers as movies by Michael Bay are nothing to me.

There's a great looking new game out in 2 weeks, War For Cybertron, that's a blend of everything, and looks amazing.

THAT is Transformers to me.

Not this crap.

I think Transformers 3 will underperform at the box office and we won't see any more of this series.

You have to wonder how many of today's kids who love the Transformers movies will grow up one day, re-watch the movies and go "That's lame." I suspect not as many as in previous generations who grew up with similar experiences related to movies they loved in childhood.

I was watching Transformers 2 a few weeks ago for the first time on Blu ray and its one of those movies that your just shocked how over the top it all is.
The movie pummels you into submission. I have no idea how anyone could sit in a theater and take that for 2 hours!

At least at home you can pause, turn down the volume or FF through some of the nonsense.

I expect T3 in 3D to reach further heights in damaging people's DNA.

Why do I have a feeling going 3-D is a desperation ploy? The last one was really bad and the sequel is going to feel it at the box office.

I liked them both and expect more of the same with the third. No attachment to any characters or knowledge of what they did "right or wrong" with them. All I expected was giant robots smashing each other for a couple of hours, and that's what I got. It didn't have to make a lot of sense, just be coherent. :) I didn't like a couple of things about each movie, but they don't get in the way.
