I've been toying with the idea of putting together a complete Lev Gleason Daredevil collection--and by this I mean every story that actually had Daredevil in it (NOT every Little Wise Guys story, in other words). Thing is--I'd need to get every story scanned! For print I'd need them all be full size and at least 400 DPI (preferably 600 DPI). I can't use anything from the web that I've seen--scans are too low DPI and too fuzzy in general.

Can anybody help with such a massive undertaking?

I have a few books on hand--Daredevil Vs. Hitler and other issues plus some Silver Streak issues (NOT #6 though--and that's a key issue) --it might make sense to include the few Claw stories that come before Daredevil appeared as well to set the stage. I can make a list of what I have.

Not sure how much of an audience there might be for something like this but since I've been having Daredevil appear regularly in Savage Dragon it seemed like it might be worth doing.

In any case--if you can help--please contact me!

That's a great idea for a collection, I would definitely pick it up.

It's certainly a title that I had considered collecting in my youth:
my Dad had some Flashback reprints. Never got around to it,
though, and only ever come across Little Wise Guys only issues.

I'd post this on the Marvel Masterworks message board (if you haven't already) http://www.marvelmasterworks.com

Odds are there'd be someone there with either the issues, or could point you in the right direction.

How many books was he in? According to Wiki, it looks like a lot, upwards of 70 issues:

Might also be worth approaching comics dealers who deal in poor condition (but complete) reader's copies of GA books and ask them about borrowing and scanning.

How do the pirates do it without bending or destroying the books in the process? And how do they do it so fast?

It also might be worth tracking down original art for certain key pages, though 1. they'd have to be recolored and 2. they'd have to be visually matched with the scanned-book pages so the transition isn't jarring.

It would all have to be recolored and otherwise restored anyway though, Steve, so that wouldn't be unique to original art.

Here's a couple of covers that are almost high-res enough. If only they weren't JPGs.

http://goldenagecomics.co.uk/index.php?cid=110 - not high res. enough, but plenty of reading material. Maybe the original scanners/uploaders can rescan if asked nicely (and/or compensated).

Most of those stories were short though. Typically Golden Age comics had many features and lead stories would be anywhere from 8-14 pages long. Not sure how practical the idea is--a lot of the stories were pretty dull character studies with little to no action--most of them only had token appearances from Daredevil himself--once the Little Wise Guys showed up Daredevil became a supporting character in his own book.

I hadn't thought of the length of the stories. Yeah, with that in mind even all those appearances, or at least a majority of them, can probably fit in a nice, chunky volume.

Hope you get some help getting this off the ground. I'd love to see more material from this era in print, and in a quality format.

Any progress on this? Is such a thing even possible?
