Product Description
Freda Payne first hit big with the #1 hit Band Of Gold recorded in 1971 for Holland/Dozier/Holland's Invictus label. She sued to get out of her contract in 1973 and moved to ABC/Dunhill Records. Payne & Pleasure was the first of two albums for the label and was produced by the legendary Lamont Dozier (at the time, someone else was credited, for legal reasons!). Available for the first time on CD, the album is the perfect example of mid-'70s soul with lush orchestrations, real instruments and many star contributors including Joe Sample, Ernie Watts, Gene Page, Melvin ''Wah Wah'' Ragin and McKinley Jackson. The 16 page full-color booklet includes previously unpublished Harry Langdon photos, an extensive essay drawing on interviews with both Freda Payne and Lamont Dozier, plus rare memorabilia.
