Product Description
Anybody who is the least bit familiar with rock music will associate the name Slash with that of a legendary rock guitarist and icon. As the former lead guitarist of mega-rock group Guns N' Roses, Slash has had a dominant presence in music for more than twenty years. Referred to by many as one of the greatest and most influential guitar players of all time, Slash's signature style and commanding guitar mastery has impacted not only millions of fans around the world, but many of his fellow artists - in all genres of music. Slash's various projects over the years have included the multi-platinum global rock band Velvet Revolver as well as guest guitarist and collaborator for a countless list of artists including Lenny Kravitz, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, the Yardbirds, Sammy Hagar and more. Add soundtrack albums and his most recent success via the video game best-seller Guitar Hero to truly begin to appreciate the legacy Slash has established through this point in his career. Slash has always been the artist others seek and invite to collaborate with on their material... now, for the first time, Slash will do the inviting. "Slash", Slash's first solo release, is a collection of new songs written in partnership with some of the most notable and legendary artists in music. After first enlisting the services of producing partner Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, The All-American Rejects), Slash compiled a premier rhythm section in bassist Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction) and drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails). The album features an all-star roster of guest musicians including Ian Astbury of The Cult, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca, Fergie, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy of Alterbridge, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmeister of Motorhead, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKagan, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother. Slash handled the majority of arranging and song writing duties and handpicked each guest artist to collaborate with on rounding out each track.

1. Ghost - Featuring Ian Astbury
2. Crucify The Dead - Featuring Ozzy Osbourne
3. Beautiful Dangerous - Featuring Fergie
4. Back From Cali - Featuring Myles Kennedy
5. Promise - Featuring Chris Cornell

Slash reveals solo album details
Guitarist has demoed 14 songs

Velvet Revolver and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash has revealed that he has demoed 14 songs for his forthcoming solo album.

He told NME Radio that he has recruited a slew of singers to appear on the album, but would not reveal who he has enlisted yet.

He added that he wasn't sure whether the album would be released before the next Velvet Revolver album. The band are currently in the process of recruiting a new singer, following the departure of Scott Weiland earlier this year.

"I've been carrying a tape recorder with me on the Velvet Revolver tour and putting down ideas," Slash explained. "When I got back from the UK at the beginning of the summer listened to what was cool on them, then elaborated and came up with new stuff."

Guns N' Roses' Slash teams up with Ozzy Osbourne

Nov 25, 2008

Former Guns N' Roses Guitarist Slash is joining forces with Ozzy Osbourne on his forthcoming solo album.

Speaking in an video interview - which you can watch below - with Rockerrazzi.com, the former Guns N' Roses guitarist's wife Perla Hudson revealed that Slash has also recruited Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie for the project.

"It's going to be Slash and friends, with everyone from Ozzy (Osbourne) to Fergie," she said.

Hudson also claimed that Slash "feels great" about Guns N' Roses' long-awaited album 'Chinese Democracy', which was released this week (November 24), and described his current band Velvet Revolver as "not my husband's best work".

"He feels great about it ('Chinese Democracy'). It's long-awaited," she explained. "Our kids like it but they also like Elmo, so that goes without saying."

Slash starts 'nailing' his solo album
The guitarist has completed four songs for the album

Slash has completed the recording of four songs for his forthcoming solo album, he has revealed.

The former Guns N' Roses man has been recording the album with former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese.

Eric Valentine (Queens Of The Stone Age, Lostprophets) is on production duties.

A slew of guest singers are set to appear on the album – although Slash has been cagey about revealing details of who might contribute.

"We've nailed four killer tracks with four amazing vocals so far," he wrote on his MySpace blog at Myspace.com/slash. "Everybody who has contributed vocals so far have been flawless and the rhythm section, Josh and Chris, are priceless.

"All in all this last couple of weeks have been a hell a lot of fun and we're just getting started. It's definitely going to be a kick ass record, if I do say so myself."

Slash records with Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale
Singer says he's 'honoured' to help the guitarist out

October 21, 2009
http://www.nme.com/news/slash/47952

Slash has recorded a currently-untitled song with Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale for his forthcoming solo album.

The Velvet Revolver and ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist's album is set to be called 'Slash & Friends' and is reportedly due for release in early 2010, with Stockdale contributing a vocal part.

"At the start of the year Slash contacted my manager and asked if I was interested in singing on his record," the Wolfmother man told BBC Newsbeat.

He added: "Maybe because I've got that old-school delivery it matches what he was trying to do. He [Slash] is an iconic figure in rock'n'roll history. I thought, 'It's an honour'."

Jack White turns down Slash collaboration

November 4, 2009

Jack White has turned down the chance to appear on Slash's debut solo album, according to the former Guns N' Roses guitarist.

Slash is due to release 'Slash & Friends' in early 2010, and the album reportedly features a host of guest musicians, including the likes of Flea, Dave Grohl and Alice Cooper.

However, the one artist that Slash says he really wanted to appear was Jack White – however, The White Stripes mainman was apparently reluctant to sing on the record.

"I wanted to get Jack White to sing on something, but he didn't want to sing," Slash told Musicradar.com. "He said I'll play drums, I'll play guitar, but I don't wanna sing. He was one guy that I wanted to work with. Pretty much everyone else that I went after I managed to get."

Writing on his Twitter.com/SlashHudson account, the guitarist said he hopes to have the album completely finished by the end of November.

I thought Ronnie would make a guest appearance on this. I look forward to it. Still, wonder what ever happened to that FACES reunion. It was such a sure thing earlier this year.

The album is called "Slash" and will be out on April 6. I'm looking forward to this one.

From Blabbermouth.net:
ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash's debut solo album, "Slash", will be released in Japan on March 24 via Universal Music. A special edition of the CD will include a bonus DVD featuring making-of-the-album footage and a free poster in the first pressing.

"Slash" is scheduled for release in the U.S. on April 6. The CD will be made available in Europe via Roadrunner Records.

"Slash" will see Roadrunner Records enter into a unique and innovative association with a U.K. media partner — the special-interest media group Future. In a brand new concept in record distribution, the standard album release will be preceded by a "Fan Pack," in which the Roadrunner Records album will be bundled together with a highly collectable, 132-page special issue of Future Publishing's Classic Rock magazine dedicated to Slash's career. This will be the first format of the album available anywhere in the world.

The partnership is a first for music and media industries, marking the first-time a major new album has been released this way. The partnership ensures that Slash's new album is available through over 4,000 U.K. retailers that stock Classic Rock — sidestepping the issue of dwindling high street music outlets and top 20 only stocking in supermarkets. Classic Rock is one of the U.K.'s biggest rock music magazines and this year recorded its eighth consecutive circulation increase, the only paid-for music magazine to grow.

The Slash "Fan Pack" featuring his debut solo album from Roadrunner Records, along with a 132-page "Classic Rock Presents: Slash" special will have a cover price of £14.99.

Among the guests appearing on the album are BLACK EYED PEAS singer Fergie's (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson), Dave Grohl, Flea, Chris Cornell, Duff McKagan, WOLFMOTHER's Andrew Stockdale, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Nicole Scherzinger, Meat Loaf, MAROON 5's Adam Levine and Ozzy Osbourne, who contributes vocals to the first single.

Selling Slash: Old Rock God Learns New-Media Tricks
"The way it was just doesn't f---in' exist anymore," admits Slash, with a new album featuring Fergie, Ozzy and Iggy

By Dominic Patten

In a music industry besieged by CD sales in double digit freefall, cutbacks, single-song iTunes downloads, layoffs, piracy and illegal downloading, being a rock star in 2010 just isn’t what it used to be -- even if you’re superstar guitarist Slash and you’ve got a new solo record coming out Tuesday.

“I'm very rock ‘n’ roll, and I believe about being cool about everything,” Slash told TheWrap, “but at the same time if you're going to make a record and if you want anyone to hear it you have to get out there and let them know about it and today that’s all about getting online and social networking.”

“In 1987 it was a whole different landscape,” Slash says with a laugh and a sigh, looking back to the start of his old group, Guns’n’Roses. “Still, up until recently, I was wary of the internet and stuff and stuck in my old-school mentality.

"But I also see it as the only way of doing things because the way I used to do things or the way it was just doesn't f---in' exist anymore.”

Jeff Varner, of management group the Collective, told TheWrap that for one thing, fans were having a hard time finding him online.

"When he came to us back in 2008, he was looking to do some stuff a bit left of centre, and a bit more progressive in terms of promotion, especially in the digital realm," Varner said. "He wasn't on Twitter, wasn't on Facebook or MySpace so we got him on them, raised his digital profile, he got a million followers on Facebook almost overnight and he began to get engage with his community."

Like most who dip their toes into the social-media pool, Slash was tentative at first, but quickly found his footing.

"I started using Twitter to put information out there, sorta shameless marketing in real-time. But as time wore on I started talking to people directly from my Blackberry, and I started having real conversations with fans and not just the die-hards."

With his mane of dark curls, leather pants and top hat, Slash has become as all-American a brand as Apple Pie or Apple computers. He has appeared played with everyone from Ray Charles and Michael Jackson to former “American Idol” Chris Daughtry.

He’s been in cartoon form on Comedy Central’s “Kid Notorious” with Robert Evans, and in “South Park,” as well as being the signature player on the “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock” videogame and hitting the bestseller list with his 2008 autobiography.

It was when singer Scott Weiland left his last project, Velvet Revolver, back in April 2008 that the axeman started thinking about a new solo album and a new direction in a vastly changed music industry.

For his new album, Slash formed his own Dik Hayd Records label. He also pulled together a cast of collaborators from the usual hard rockin' suspects of Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop and almost every former member of GNR to to Top 40 staples like longtime friend Fergie and Maroon 5 crooner Adam Levine and newer acts like M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold.

The self-titled album is a product that almost has something for almost everyone. “I didn't intentionally set out to try and reach all the different demographics,” insists the guitarist, “I ended up using people from different genres because it fit the material.”

Intentional or not, it is a potentially far-reaching chart topping combination says Dominic Pandiscia, Senior VP of EMI Label Services.

“Fans of each respective vocalist and performer may be inclined to listen to other artists,” says Pandiscia whose division is working with Slash management on promotion and handling the record's distribution. “Our long-term message is that this is an album of discovery, and taking that approach both in traditional media and online we think fans of Slash or the other artists may discover new artists in the process.”

Starting March 23 on Amazon's Slash Store, the guitarist started posting regular behind-the-scenes video vignettes talking about the collaborations as well as streaming full versions of the 14 songs.

And with the “Your Next Record” contest, Slash and Guitar Center have dangled the rock dream in front of unsigned bands who have up until April 30 to win the chance to record a three-song EP with the guitarist and be the opening act at one of his shows.

There are also promotions with Monster Energy Drink; a contest through Ernie Ball guitar strings and a special Slash issue of “Classic Rock” magazine in the U.K.

Slash will be performing on Leno on Tuesday, followed later in the week with performances on “Lopez Tonight” and CBS' Craig Ferguson.

Then, after a couple of U.S. shows, it’s on to the more traditional rock 'n' roll road of European festivals over the summer and shows in Japan before heading back to tour North America later in the year.

As for the social networking, the connection with that community has become a part of his day-to-day routine, the guitarist told The Wrap. In fact, he's become a convert -- insisting that technology has become a necessary extension to break down the barrier between artist and fans, especially during the "sad period" which, in his opinion, rock 'n' roll is going through right now.

"I'm not going to spend all day sitting around on the computer, that's not me," he says, "but I like talking to fans, and internet technology is so much better than the meet-and-greets of the old days."

Is all of this too much, even in today’s music market?

There is a risk of over-saturation, Larry Vincent, the srategy director of branding firm Siegel + Gale, told TheWrap. “You want people to be talking about this two months from now, but you don't want them complaining about how sick they are of it. That's what really worked for Santana back in 1999 with Supernatural. A lot of promotion went into that album and it had plenty of flavors, but all of them included the unifying ingredient of one Carlos Santana.”

Still, 1999 is a long way from 2010.

As Ozzy Osbourne, a modern master of reinvention, put it to Slash in the studio: "This f---in' record better sell!"

Okay, the double-dipping has got to stop. The most ironic thing is that the industry is actually slapping around the few people that are actually buying their product! I'll bet the people that they make angry by doing this far exceeds the amount of people who will actually buy these albums again. It's making me question whether I should just stop buying new releases altogether.

i would imagine the 13 bonus tracks are live from this tour.

Okay, the double-dipping has got to stop. The most ironic thing is that the industry is actually slapping around the few people that are actually buying their product! This sounds a little like the version that was sold as a "Classic Rock" magazine special edition. It had a bonus track with Alice Cooper and Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls, guitar pick, poster and a full sized issue of Classic Rock devoted entirely to Slash. No DVD though. I bought it, copied the CD and resold the whole package on Ebay for what I paid for it. I only wanted the CD with the bonus track.
